After success with my second multi-player article, I've decided to continue with the same set-up, although I may change it for finals next week. Two players from Volume 6 scored tons in the subsequent week (decent ones too), while the other two scored 80s. However the two players that got 80s (Lobbe and Duffield) managed to score tons last round. The four players from Volume 7 all did well last round, scoring 149 (Priddis), 107 (Hurn), 118 (Maric) and 124 (McGlynn). This week I've looked at guys who are selected in under 1% of sides, but are in terrific form. A lot had interrupted or slow starts to the year but have become a sneaky POD if you're willing to take the risk.
Ryan Harwood (BRIS) - Defender
When I was looking to fill my D4 spot during preseason I decided to look around 350k-450k and go with a POD. Harwood, and his teammate Ryan Lester (who's also improved), fit the bill at that stage. I ended up going with Matthew Broadbent who has been up and down and the better choice as Harwood didn't start out very well. He played Round 1 but only had 6 disposals and scored 42. I assume he was then dropped as he didn't appear until Round 4 when he returned 18 disposals and 73 SuperCoach points. I am unsure if he was then dropped again but he didn't reappear until Round 11. He has played every game since; averaging 91. During those eight rounds he's scored four tons, and 54, 85, 68 and 74. His last four games have been excellent, as he's produced an average of 102. The key to him scoring well is finding the ball; every game that he has had 20+ disposals he's scored over 100 and every game he's had sub 20 disposals he's scored below 100.
David Armitage (WCE) - Midfielder
Armitage was featured in my Preseason PODs but he failed to deliver. I thought that with Dal Santo leaving a midfield void now was the time for the former pick 9 to step up. He put in some serviceable scores of 86 and 84 in the first four rounds before a knee infection - after a laceration cause by Pat Dangerfield's boot in Round 4 - kept him out for seven matches. He returned in Round 13, again producing only serviceable scores of 94 and 85, but these were dampened by his inability to deliver a big score, as his other games for the season had only been 55, 70 and 63. He is touted as being Nick Riewoldt's successor as captain (along with Jarryn Geary and, to a lesser extent, Jack Newnes) and as a St.Kilda supporter I saw the leader come out of him over the past three weeks. His average of 77 over his first seven matches seemed unbelievable after seeing him average 125 from his last three games, with scores of 110, 144 and 120. Armitage did say on The Sunday Footy Show that the players sat down and told each other a few home truths about where they were each at, definitely affecting Shane Savage positively and this may have been responsible for Armitage's recent form. I would tread carefully with him as I am only going on a three game sample, but if you're after a genuine POD you can look no further than someone in 507 out out 249,498 sides.
Zac Clarke (FREO) - Ruckman
Zac Clarke has only scored one ton in the fourteen games he's played this season, making this seem an odd selection. However, he has scored in the 90s six times... and he's only 411k!! Early on in the season some of his decent scores (80-90+) were scattered among scores of 40-70. Although during the last three games something seems to have clicked. Statistically it does appear he's consistently spending more time in the ruck; either that, or he's just winning more ruck contests. What I do know is that he's scored 95, 95 and 93 in the last three games - his best and most consistent patch of scoring for the year - which is getting back to the same form that saw him average 96 last year.
Jason Winderlich (ESS) - Forward
Winderlich missed a few games early in the season due to injuries. He's strung some games together and has been played off half-back recently, which has seen his SuperCoach average lift from 51 over his first six games to 105 over his last four. He's only scored three tons this year, but they've all come from his last three games.
