Photo courtesy AFL.com.au Jared Rivers 2012 Games: 22 2012 Average: 73 2013 Club: Geelong Rivers will be the replacement for retired champion Matthew Scarlett next year at the Cats. Like most key defenders - he will be more interested in shutting down his opponent than getting the ball himself, so he won’t be a good Supercoach option. Rivers has shown he is durable in the past, as he has only missed the 8 games in the last 4 years. But in that time he hasn’t been a high scorer with averages of 63,68,79 and 73. Rivers played every game this season and was one of the few shinning lights in Melbourne’s disappointing season. Rivers was a little inconsistent though as he had 7 games with SuperCoach scores of over 90 and 7 games where he scored less than 60. Even though Rivers will be great down back for the Cats, he will be around $400k next year so you're better off paying a little extra and getting a true premium back. With the departure of Rivers at the Dees, it should see Tom McDonald get more game time and make him a good fantasy option down back. Hamish McIntosh 2012 games: 7 2012 average: 102.9 2013 club: Geelong The SuperCoaches who jumped on the H-Mac at the start of 2012 would have been over the moon with his early season form churning out four hundreds (including a high of 140) in his first six appearances. Considering he cost them only $364,300, this was elite output. But as was the way with most of McIntosh's seasons, injury struck him down, this year an Achilles injury ending his season in round seven. McIntosh had his best season in 2009, where he played 22 matches and averaged a highly respectable 92 points per game. Since then however, injury has consistently hampered him, and he's played only 28 matches in the last three years. His price won't be discounted for the 2013 season, meaning he will be a veryexpensive buy. However, the number one ruckman role is a big carrot that will be too much to ignore for some coaches. It all depends if you are willing to risk McIntosh's feeble body in your #1 ruck spot. Josh Caddy 2012 Games: 22 2012 Average: 61 2013 Club: Geelong Caddy played every game in 2012 and averaged 61 points a game and his highest score was funnily enough against the Cats with 98. Despite playing all 22 matches, disappointingly he only scored over 80 three times and showed little as a potential prolific midfielder. With Bartel, Corey, Chapman and Kelly all over 28, the Cats will try to get games in to their young guns like Caddy, and except him to get help from these midfielders, unlike the support he had at the Suns, which will make his job easier and hopefully result in a increase in his Supercoach scores. Caddy is a very talented footballer and with him back home in Victoria and happier I would expect him to average 80+ and is someone to watch as a midpricer in your midfield next year. He won't be cheap though, most likely priced above $300k. |
