2012 Review
Best First Year Player : Jared BOUMANN - 2 matches, 48 points @ 24. Nil increase
Would’ve had Jack GUNSTON in here as 2012 was his first year for the Hawks, but that doesn’t fit the criteria. Not a lot on offer in first-year players at Hawthorn – this was a settled, experienced team that was hell-bent on a Premiership. Whilst BOUMANN didn’t show a great deal he looks a likely type, especially down back where the Hawks can be a bit vulnerable at times. One to watch in 2013.
Most Improved Player : David HALE - 21 matches, 2,008 points @ 95.6 Increased $122,700
A very impressive season from HALE, whose added benefit in fantasy terms was his dual positioning as a Forward

Most Improved Player : David HALE - 21 matches, 2,008 points @ 95.6 Increased $122,700
A very impressive season from HALE, whose added benefit in fantasy terms was his dual positioning as a Forward
and Ruck. Ten times over 100 pts, with a top score for the year of 151 pts in round 21 equated to a great output from the former Kangaroo. A unique selection that provided super value in 2012.
Best Buy : Jarryd ROUGHEAD - 20 matches, 2074 points @ 103.7 Loss of $48,800
Despite dropping $48,800 for the year, big ROUGHY has really slipped under the “Buddy-centric” radar in 2012. Another with dual positioning as a bonus, ROUGHEAD has finished with a very tidy average of almost 104 pts per game, with eleven 100s (and 16 matches over 90), including five scores in excess of 120 pts. A ripper year in anyone’s terms.
Worst Buy : Shane SAVAGE - 18 matches, 1002 points @ 55.7 Loss of $212,100
Valued at $412,000 at the beginning of 2012 after coming off a season in 2011 where he averaged 76 pts a game, SAVAGE has been a major disappointment as a midfield point-of-difference selection. Despite playing 18 matches he dropped 20 pts per game on average, compiling several scores in the 20s and 30s after being vested several times. One to avoid.
2013 Prospects
Luke BRUEST - Averaging 86 pts from 21 games as a forward this year, BRUEST has become the new Isaac SMITH, playing a similar role and doing it very well. Another Hawk with plenty of skill by foot, look for him to improve even further in 2013.
Jack GUNSTON - Sure, GUNSTON was aided by Buddy’s injury, but still – to rise $71,500 and average 71 pts per game when playing in a forwardline often consisting of Buddy and Roughy is very impressive. I like the way he goes about it, and he is a very dependable kick for goal. A great foil for the twin towers.
