After many thought (including me) that the North Melbourne Kangaroos would push for finals contention, the Roos are languishing at the foot of the ladder, winless and without a friend in the world. Only two of their players in Andrew Swallow and reliable old Brent Harveyaverage over 100. Even fellow cellar-dwellers the Lions have 3. For them, Jed Adcock, Jack Redden and Tommy Rockliff have been the stars. And who would have thought that the sauce-topped Daniel Merrett would average 99 after four matches? Incredible!
This leads me to my point, if you have some Brisbane players, stick with them, especially the young, exciting ones. For North however, most of their players are mid-priced and mid-20's, waiting for a break-out year. Unfortunatley, it doesn't look likely.
You may also be wondering you is pictured in this edition of Schon's Shout. It's little-known Gold Coast legend Luke Russell. Russell is no SuperCoach star, nor is he an AFL gun just yet, but after playing the previous two games for the Suns he has looked very impressive. Sure, he's averaging less than 50, but his left-foot snap to win the match for the 'GC' on Saturday will go down in the club's history. He is a midfielder, at $110,200 in SuperCoach if you are interested, because he has the potential to make you some cash.
Maybe Gold Coast will finish 12th, like I foolishly predicted.
Also a Shout-Out to Richmond and St.Kilda apon completing their first win of the season, and another to the Geelong Cats who continue to defy critics and experts' opinions (who needs 'em?).
Stay tuned for Wednesday's weekly 'In Profile' player, who I can say is an absolute champion, with some obscure tattoos. Also approaching like a steam-train, Dave's Rave and Trade Winds.
Oh, and by the way, I can't wait to get these bye-rounds over and done with!
