It's effectively AFL's premiership quarter - and a lot of parallels can be made to our great game, SuperCoach. Round 12 may only be the literal half way mark of the season, but now is the time that your side should be starting to look almost complete.
Make some big upgrades and cash in those premiums you couldn't afford at the start.
And, coincidentally - the bye weeks provide us an awesome opportunity to grab players who have a free run ahead of them.
That's why I'll be favouring at the players who've completed their bye, and why you should grab them.
I need a DOWN-GRADE
Tom Nicholls - RUCK - R13 bye - Scores: 90 & 139
The perfect switch for a Sam Rowe or Majak Daw. He hasn't had his bye yet, but if you want him it has to be this week as his price will sky-rocket.
Nathan Hrovat - MID - R11 bye - scores: 86 & 62
This is the guy to get this week. Has been super impressive already and the Bulldogs have to play their youngsters. He was a first round pick in last year's draft, so rated very highly.
and
Sam Michael - RUCK - R11 bye - scores: 30 & 27
Two ruckmen you have completed their bye, but aren't great selections. Grimley scores well but his job security is shocking with plenty of talls at the Hawks. Michael's job security is better but he just hasn't scored well at all.
Kyle Martin - MID - R13 bye - scores: 94 & 80
Not sold on how safe his spot is in Collingwood's side, but scores well enough.
Tom Mitchell - MID - R12 bye - scores: 87 & 126
Gun. I'd claim him as my man as I've been hanging out for him to debut since last year, but people won't buy that. What people should buy, is Mitchell himself. He's a ball magnet and in the Swans' best 22. No rush however, he has the bye this week, meaning his price ain't moving.
I need an UP-GRADE
Defence:
Pearce Hanley - $516,900 - R11 bye - Ave: 105
Hard to go wrong with this pick. You might consider waiting a week or two as his BE is 163, but regardless he's a terrific selection. Been one of the best defenders all year.
Grant Birchall - $417,800 - R11 bye - Ave: 97
Now is the time to pounce on Grant. We are all aware he started the season in a blaze of glory, and might finally be returning to that.
Hamish Hartlett - $413,300 - R11 bye - Ave: 90
Not sure he can be considered a premium, due to his inconsistency. However after a short rest, he might find what he's been missing - the ability to churn out regular centuries.
Nathan Fyfe - $548,700 - R11 bye - Ave: 112
Fyfe is my pick here. He's been in outstanding form and is truly the Dockers' go-to-guy. He's had a two week break thanks to a silly suspension and now the bye - if he isn't fresh now he'll never be.
Trent Cotchin - $550,700 - R11 bye - Ave: 112
Cotch's price has dropped a big $71k this year, but it doesn't make him any less of a gun. With the bye done, Richmond have a host of winnable games approaching (Adel, WB, St.K), meaning you can cash in on a cheap Trent Cotchin.
Ryan Griffen - $606,700 - R11 bye - Ave: 123
Who's got the highest SC average behind Ablett and Pendlebury? I bet you wouldn't guess Griffen. But it's true. Griffo has been the lynch-pin in the improving Bulldogs. He'd be a point of difference premium in your midfield for sure.
Ruck:
Will Minson - $572,600 - R11 bye - Ave: 116
When you play outstanding footy, you get recognised for it. And that is starting to happen for Big Will. Trust me - that impressive average doesn't lie. He's easily in the top three ruckmen in the comp - reason enough to get him into your team.
Ivan Maric - $454,000 - R11 bye - Ave 93
It's no secret that big Ivan has been a little off this season, at least compared to his incredbile 2012. He's plummeted $150k+ in price; that's way to much for a gun like Maric. If you're a punter it's the perfect scenario to back him in to regain his form.
Forwards:
Jarryd Roughead - $543,700 - R11 bye - Ave: 98
I'm still a little worried about jumping on Roughy, just because there a lot of talls playing at the Hawks at the moment. Still, his average over the last five reads an average of an impressive 113.
Dustin Martin - $530,400 - R11 bye - Ave: 104
Dusty is the best option of the forwards just to complete their bye. He's found consistency and reliability, and is averaging over 100 for the first time in his career. Won't get dropped and unlikely to get rested as Richmond will need to win every possible match in their finals bid.
Jordan Lewis - $519,900 - R11 bye - Ave: 98
Week after week, Lewis delivers. Not massive scores, but you know Jordan will always give the triple figures a good push. A very safe pick.
So who are you targeting this week? Are you going to use all your three trades? Fire away in the comments!
