We know that the scoring system in SuperCoach is different to its competitor Dream Team.
And as a result, some player score better in SC than DT. Why is this, and who are the better players?
While drinking a strawberry milkshake by the computer, I thought about this. So I put together a little low-down on the similarities but mostly differences between the two systems. Hopefully it is useful for you and who knows - a couple of extra points from a contested possession my be the difference!
How and Why SC scores differently:
SuperCoach scoring system rewards quality of disposal more so than quantity. So for example if Joel Selwood has 20 touches against St.Kilda but none of them are effective, he will score less points than if he got only 15 touches against Collingwood but they all hit the intended target.
SC also factors-in the situation of the game - if the game is tight and still to be won then performances are rated higher than matches already won and easy kicks are won in the final quarters.
SC has decided some elements of the game are more important than others. That's why centre clearances, hard ball gets, contested marks and hit outs to advantage score so highly. If you look for players get a lot of these then you're side will improve immediately.
Who scores better in SC:
Below I've added a list of the best SuperCoach players in comparison to their Dream Team ranking from 2010. In other words these guys are pretty hopeless at DT but because of the different systems are very handy in SC.
Player SuperCoach Rank Dream Team Rank Rank Diff.
Nathan Grima Def 74th 235th Up 131
Nathan Foley Mid 61st 216th Up 155
Josh Drummond Def 72nd 185th Up 113
Harry Taylor Def 100th 209th Up 109
Brent Staker For/Mid 97th 183rd Up 86
Troy Chaplin Def 89th 174th Up 85
Mark Jamar Ruck 130th 189th Up 59
Heath Grundy For/Def 84th 140th Up 56
Jarrad McVeigh Mid 59th 115th Up 56
Graham Johncock Def 30th 83rd Up 53
Some other players whose ranking is up but not in the top 10 are: Chris Newman, Brad Sewell, Heath Shaw, Jack and Nick Riewoldt and Luke Hodge.
A lot of the above players are defenders and this means that it is really important to consider the scoring difference when picking your team and not relying on reputation or what you think a player can score.
