will now make or break us. As we find out in the coming weeks how right we got
it in the pre season and possibly (but hopefully not!) how wrong we got it. With
30 trades again this season, we have plenty of means to make those slight
corrections here and there in our squads. But after all is it just one round
down, no need to hit the panic button - but there is one button you always have
to hit, and that’s the big C!
Last weekend Jobe Watson was the dominant midfield premium, destroying
North Melbourne with his 157 points. Nick Riewoldt (133) delivered a typical
Riewoldt performance, leading the way for the Saints, dynamic forwards Mark
LeCras (144) and Luke Breust (140) both impressed while Clinton Jones (152)
found plenty of the ball, yet I dare say that will be the first and last time we
see his name in Shortys Skippers.
Here are my captaincy selections for round 2!
Trent Cotchin
Cotchin is the perfect vice captain loop hole option for this week. He
has been in brilliant form throughout pre-season and then in round 1, as well as
tonning up in four of the past five meetings with the Blues. Richmond need
someone to stand up and lead them to a defining victory, Cotchin is the
man.
Scott Pendlebury
Always one to consider, he polled the three Brownlow votes last time
they met which was also at ANZ Stadium, along with 150 SC points. Lock in
Pendles with confidence.
Patrick Dangerfield
In the first showdown of 2014 and the first at the Adelaide Oval, which
makes this a huge occasion for South Australian footy. Patty Dangerfield loves a
big occasion and thrives in the big matches. After he was held by Cam Guthrie
last week, expect him to have a big say in the outcome of Saturday’s
match.
Dean Cox
The Eagles announced themselves last week with an impressive victory
while Dean Cox continues to defy his age with a score of 115. He remains the
main tap ruckman as Nic Nat makes his way back to full fitness, until then I
don’t see scores dropping off any time soon. With 171 SC points last time he
faced the Dees, he may be worth a gamble.
Lance Franklin
Yes, you read correctly. While Buddy is not so much a realistic
captaincy choice, unless you have a confident option on Sunday. I am backing him
in to bounce back this week after copping plenty in the fantasy circles. He has
an exceptional record against the Pies, having kicked 17 goals and averaging 120
SC points in their last four meetings. I think we will see his true ability and
prove the doubters on Saturday night. Have faith!
