Alternatively some of our cash cows have stalled and consequently been dropped, The Lions culled some popular names, in particular Zac O’Brien while Charlie Cameron continues to be of frustration.
Harley Bennell was the standout performer for round 14 with his demolition of the Cats, he kicked 6.3 and found plenty of the ball on his way to tallying 167 SC points. Another Sun was at the top in Gary Ablett, he racked up 160 points in his best performance against his old club to date, Bernie Vince (162) was superb, in particular his unbelievable first half, Tom Rockliff (158) was a standalone figure for the Lions while top two ruckman Shane Mumford and Sam Jacobs were sublime with 152 and 147 points respectively.
Here are my captaincy selections for round 15!
Joel Selwood
Selwood’s record against the Bombers is certainly not his brightest in the league, but when Geelong need someone to step up – Joel is the man. He was one of only two players last week who could hold their heads high, Friday night’s match is a line in the sand game for the Cats, many calling time on their premiership window, expect Selwood to again hold his head high.
Tom Rockliff
What a mammoth performance in a side that was disgraced last weekend. While the rest of Rockliff’s teammates struggled to find the ball let alone consistently, he racked up 45 touches, laid 12 tackles and scored 158 SC points! Whether the Lions win, lose or draw, whether it be rain, hail or shine – Rocky is always captain material.
Chad Wingard
Wingard is a showdown specialist, his past three outings have returned three centuries, 12 goals and an average of 126 SC points. He is a born match winner and always rises on the big stage. With Pendlebury playing the final match of the round Wingard could be a smoky option for your VC before Pendles takes on a tagger-less Blues.
Dustin Martin
Another left field option, but Martin’s form is worth recognition. After a slow start to the year, since the bye he has been outstanding. Martin has reeled off six tons with an average of 120! Highlighted by his performance against the Swans last week (148), utilizing his superb running ability to find plenty of the ball.
Ablett vs Pendlebury
Ablett
Past 5 vs Hawthorn – 138, 149, 189, 170, 144
Ablett’s record against the Hawks is irresistible. His score of 138 earlier this year was his lowest in his past five outings against his fierce rival. With some massive scores along the journey, Gaz is a lock against the reigning premiers.
Pendlebury
Past 5 vs Carlton – 102, 154, 121, 62, 145
Pendlebury is having another ultra consistent year, he is yet to drop under 100. It will be a huge build up to the Pies and Blues clash, expect Pendles to be one of the best on the field.
Who will you be placing the VC and C on this week?
