2013 proved a forgettable year for Thomas, playing just the five matches due to nagging injuries. Daisy will now begin 2014 as a Blue and look to regather the form that made him one of the most exciting players in the competition. As a result of his troublesome ankle, Thomas is marked at an extremely tempting price, however now that he will only be available as a midfielder; our decision is a bit more clouded.
The classy on-baller has plenty of upside from the small sample he gave us last year. After returning in round 3, he was eased back into the top level with three quiet games which included a stint in the green vest. Come round 6 and 7, Daisy turned it on with two scintillating performances, racking up 34 and 25 touches respectively, equating to SuperCoach scores of 150 and 105, before he once again succumbed to an ankle injury.
Now that he will be available as a pure midfielder, it makes the risk much greater, given the immense scoring potential coupled with bargain buys through the midfield. Throwing in a mid-pricer like Thomas could disrupt some coach’s midfield structure.
For mine, Thomas is a watch and wait prodigy. Track his pre-season closely and monitor where new and old coach Mick Malthouse has him playing and how much of the pre season training he has been completed. I believe Daisy is too much of a risk to place in your midfield, but at that price the temptation is high, he will no doubt be a hot topic of discussion in the fantasy circles and his selection could make or break your side.
