What a week of exclusions off the back of the tribunal and some rotten in jury luck. Some sides will have been hit hard by these exits, so hard it is beyond damage control. However, if you have avoided them or have the required trades to keep your head above water – nicely done.
It is all part and parcel of the game we devote so much time and effort too, and sometimes it is pure luck that can ruin our premiership hopes.
Matthew Lobbe topped last week’s scoring chart with 178 points against the Suns. With 12 tackles and 56 hit outs, it’s no surprise he returned such a mammoth score. Lance Franklin (168) booted nine goals in an outstanding display, Lions duo in Dayne Zorko and Pearce Hanley feasted on the Magpies with scores of 162 and 149 while Robbie Gray (148) continued his superb season.
Here are my captaincy selections for this week!
Patrick Dangerfield
Dangerfield has had an up and down season, with plenty of mid-range scores as well as some huge ones. It’s a massive game for the Crows against a North Melbourne side with two key outs in the midfield. Dangerfield looks to be a worthwhile VC option this weekend.
Joel Selwood
Selwood loves taking on the Hawks which has been highlighted many times before. Earlier in the season he was held to just 20 possessions in his quietest match against the great foe. However Selwood’s form speaks for itself, I think he’ll win the Brownlow Medal, and a few votes here could sure his odds right up.
Trent Cotchin
Cotchin has been in sensational form just like the Tigers in recent weeks. Over the past seven weeks the Richmond skipper has averaged 117 as well as a best on ground performance against the Saints that started the Tigers magnificent run, where he scored 168 points.
Tom Rockliff
Not much needs to be said here, he is hot property at the moment. In his last seven outings he has dropped under 130 just twice with scores of 113 and 126. The rest have been captaincy gold. Lock him in.
Scott Pendlebury
Past 2 vs GWS – 92, 136
Pendlebury was a late withdrawal last week, hurting many sides. He has been named this weekend, but whether he plays or not is another story. He won’t be at his best but you’d be crazy to write him off. I’d be looking at other options before whacking the C on him immediately.
