Freshmen (newbies): Guys named for their first match of their career, or guys coming back from injury who are dirt cheap.
About to burst: These fellas have played two matches this year, and if you don't jump on them this round, their price will explode. Basically just a warning signal.
Cheapened stars: They may not have exactly 'fallen from grace', but it's not unusual for a gun to average 100 yet still see a price drop of $100,000. These guys are the perfect trade-up targets, and a smart selection here is just as important as picking the right rookie.
Freshmen:
Sam Frost (GWS) $130,700, DEF
Frost is a tall, versatile defender, and the was the number one pick in last year's rookie draft.
Levi Casboult (Carl) $113,200, FOR
Casboult is a very tall and strong 22 year old who can play forward or ruck.
Tom Bell (Carl) $104,700, DEF
Another mature aged rookie for the Blues, and Bell will play midfield and bust open packs.
Kurt Aylett (GWS) $113,200, DEF/MID
20 year old midfielder who will get a crack at winning the outside ball for the Giants.
About to burst:
Andrew McInnes (Carl) $113,200, DEF, Ave: 64
Not sold on his job security, but he scores solidly enough and will free up plenty of cash.
Elliott Yeo (Bris) $106,600, MID, Ave: 57
Yeo returned to the side last week after debuting in round 9. Has plenty of up-side and might be able to hold his spot in the developing Lions' team.
Cameron Sutcliffe (Fre) $106,600, MID, Ave: 49.5
I would be extremely cautious picking anyone from Fremantle with Ross Lyon at the helm. Example 1: Lee Spurr. Example 2: Greg Broughton.
Jake Spencer (Melb) $113,200, RUCK, Ave: 48.5
With Jamar now out for an extended period, Spencer will get plenty of time to improve his credentials.
Cheapened Stars:
Dyson Heppell (Ess) $391,000, DEF, Ave: 85, BE: 63
Heppell hasn't set the world on fire this year but has been there-abouts. Now that he's bottomed out, it's time to cash in on this talented youngster.
Dan Hannebery (Syd) $428,800, MID, Ave: 85, BE: 64
Picked up a career-high 42 possessions on the weekend, and could be hitting form at exactly the right time.
