Key Outs:
The Roos are fielding a very strong side this week and have only one player unavailable for selection, young draftee Tom Curran.
Who To Watch:
Andrew Swallow- He’s a gun, although doesn’t get too much recognition for his efforts, he’s averaged over 105 the last 3 years and ranked 13 overall last year. Many look past him but he could be a good selection if he can keep up his form of recent years.
Shaun Atley- He’s a young gun who is ready to break out in his 3rd season, he has had a reasonable first two seasons and looks set to take it to the next level in 2013. He’s had a great pre-season by all reports and is one to watch.
Ben Cunnington- Increased by 45% in price last year averaging 77 and is coming into his fourth year in the league. As a former number 5 pick he should be coming into his own this year and could possibly have a breakout season, keep an eye on him.
Ben Jacobs- Port was really disappointed to lose him last year, it’s his 3rd year and he could be a great pickup at just 300k. He’s fit this season and is one to watch throughout the Nab cup.
MELBOURNE -
Squad:
1. Jesse Hogan, 2. Nathan Jones, 4. Jack Watts, 5. Jimmy Toumpas, 6. Chris Dawes, 7. Jack Viney, 8. James Frawley, 10. Shannon Byrnes, 12. Colin Sylvia, 13. Jordie McKenzie, 14. Lynden Dunn, 15. David Rodan, 17. Sam Blease, 19. James Strauss, 20. Colin Garland, 21. Cameron Pedersen, 22. James Magner, 25. Tom McDonald, 26. Daniel Nicholson, 27. Tom Gillies, 28. Joel Macdonald, 30. James Sellar, 31. Jack Grimes, 32. Michael Evans, 34. Dean Kent, 36 Aaron Davey, 38. Jeremy Howe, 39. Neville Jetta, 40. Mark Jamar, 42. Jake Spencer, 45. Matt Jones, 46. Dean Terlich, 47. Tom Couch, 48. Jack Fitzpatrick
Key Outs:
Jack Trengove- The Dees captain is still recovering from a stress fracture in his left foot and has only been running for the past 3 and a bit weeks. Trengove is looking to be fit by round 1 although he is in some doubt. He could be a good mid-year pickup if he gets fit and firing.
Who To Watch:
Nathan Jones- Was a shining light last year in an underwhelming season by the Dees, he averaged 97 and won the Dees B&F. Could be a left of field choice but could pay off if his steady form increase continues.
Jack Grimes- Managed to play more than 14 games in a season for the first time in his career last year after injuries held him back. This could be his last year in the backline as a midfield role seems likely, he’s a good price and if he does run through the midfield he could be a steal at 472k. Watch during the Nab Cup.
Jimmy Toumpas- The number 4 pick in this year’s draft has impressed on the track thus far with his elite ball use being a feature. He’s a bit pricey at 184k but could be worth the extra cash as he should play a number of games throughout the season. Watch!
Dean Terlich- Played in defence in the SANFL last season averaging 21 possessions and six marks, he also won BOG in the SANFL ground final finishing with 31 disposals and 14 marks. Should get a tone of opportunity at the top level, is a great rookie option.
RICHMOND -
Squad:
1. Chris Newman, 3. Brett Deledio, 4. Dustin Martin, 5. Brandon Ellis, 6. Shaun Grigg, 7. Matt Dea, 8. Jack Riewoldt, 9. Trent Cotchin, 10. Shane Edwards, 11. Jake Batchelor, 12. David Astbury, 13. Ricky Petterd, 14. Bachar Houli, 15. Chris Knights, 16. Luke McGuane, 18. Alex Rance, 20. Ivan Maric, 21. Shane Tuck, 23. Daniel Jackson, 24. Ben Griffiths, 26. Robin Nahas, 27. Aaron Edwards, 29. Ty Vickery, 30. Reece Conca, 31. Nick Vlastuin, 35. Matt White, 36. Matt McDonough, 37. Orren Stephenson, 38. Steven Morris, 39. Tom Derickx, 43. Todd Elton, 44. Matthew Arnot, 45. Brett O'Hanlon, 49. Steven Verrier
Key Outs:
Nathan Foley- Averaged 103 until he got injured at training just before round 11 last season, the great thing about him is he will never get tagged. Although he has not been able to keep himself on the park for extended periods of time and is an injury worry. Could be a good pickup in the middle of the year if he gets himself fit.
Who To Watch:
Trent Cotchin- What can you say about this bloke, he came second in the Brownlow last year and won the respect of the entire competition. He averaged 116 and is coming into the prime of his career; he’s a superstar and could go to the absolute elite level this year. Lock him in.
Brett Deledio- A move to the midfield did him a world of good last year moving his average from 105 to 117. This year he is only a midfielder making him a less popular selection than in previous years and he will now be a unique pick. He’s been tearing up the track and if you’re looking for a consistent performer he has to come into your calculations.
Dustin Martin- Had a big dip in form last year dropping 10 points off his average but expect him to bounce back this year. He’s a bit of a loose cannon and has indiscretions since arriving at Tigerland He could crash and burn or become a superstar, watch him throughout the Nab cup.
Nick Vlastuin- The 9th pick in the draft is a hard nut that captained Vic Metro at last year’s Nab AFL under 18 Championships. He averaged 97 last year in the TAC Cup and could be given game time in the tigers backline. Is likely to get the green vest but he should get better as the season goes on. Could be a good backline rookie option; keep a close eye on him.
Brisbane v Gold Coast v Hawthorn
Saturday, Feb 23, Metricon Stadium 5:40pm
BRISBANE -
Squad:
1.Sam Docherty, 2. Ryan Harwood, 3. Brent Moloney, 5. Billy Longer, 6. Josh Green, 8. Rohan Bewick, 9. Ashley McGrath, 10. Daniel Rich, 12. Stefan Martin, 13. Callum Bartlett, 15. Dayne Zorko, 17. Claye Beams, 18. Todd Banfield, 19. Jordan Lisle, 21. Daniel Merrett, 22. Marco Paparone, 24. Joel Patfull, 25. Richard Newell, 26. Elliot Yeo, 28. Patrick Karnezis, 29. Andrew Raines, 30. Jack Redden, 31. James Polkinghorne, 35. Ryan Lester, 36. Matt Maguire, 37. Patrick Wearden, 38. Tom Rockliff, 40. Niall McKeever, 41. Mitch Golby, 42. Justin Clarke, 44. Aaron Cornelius, 46. Sam Michael, 48. Stephen Wrigley
Key Outs:
Matthew Leuenberger – As we all know, the number 4 pick from the 2006 draft missed most of last year with injury. Averaged 102 SuperCoach points in 2011, and can replicate that in 2013 if he stays fit. Most coaches have him locked in as their second ruckman, but we won’t get to see the mid pricer just yet.
Pearce Hanley – Unfortunately the 24 year old irishman won’t run out with the Lions this week. Hanley is now a genuine premium defender after averaging 91 last year. It’s crazy to think that this guy first picked up an AFL football when he was just 18, and if his numbers continue to rise he could be a great POD for your side.
Brent Staker – Staker was a lock in most people’s teams until he went down with a knee injury. Will be out until at least round two
Sam Mayes – Brisbane’s first pick in last year’s draft unfortunately won’t get a run this week. Could be a good forward rookie option, but he comes with a price tag of $164,000.
Who to watch:
Sam Docherty – Yet to make his debut after an injury plagued season. The boy from Phillip Island should get his chance in 2013, so keep a very close eye on him on the weekend. Averaged 21 disposals in the NEAFL coming off half back.
Brent Moloney – Recycled Melbourne recruit Brent Moloney will get his first run is Brisbane colours. After a below-par season with the Dees, Moloney is tipped to step straight into the Lions’ midfield. If he can keep up consistent numbers he is definitely one worth considering, especially at only $360k
Tom Rockliff – Rocky may be a little overpriced, but with lack of Supercoach forward options and more midfield time, he could be a handy player. Needs to find some consistency in the NAB cup first.
Claye Beams – Dayne Beams’ younger brother has been impressive this pre-season, and should get more game time than ever in 2013. Huge potential, but is awkwardly priced at $355k. Watch closely
GOLD COAST-
Squad:
1. Jaeger O'Meara, 2. Zac Smith, 3. Jared Brennan, 4. Maverick Weller, 5. Jarrod Harbrow, 6. Alex Sexton, 7. Karmichael Hunt, 8. Luke Russell, 9. Gary Ablett, 11. Harley Bennell, 12. Sam Day, 13. Jacob Gillbee, 14. Matthew Warnock, 15. Daniel Gorringe, 16. Rory Thompson, 17. Steven May, 19. Tom Lynch, 21. Jeremy Taylor, 23. Charlie Dixon, 24. David Swallow, 26. Matt Shaw, 29. Tom Murphy, 30. Campbell Brown, 31. Jackson Allen, 33. Aaron Hall, 34. Jack Hutchins, 35. Michael Rischitelli, 36. Greg Broughton, 37. Jesse Lonergan, 38. Joel Wilkinson, 40. Andrew Boston, 42. Kyal Horsley
Key Outs:
Nathan Bock – Unfortunately hasn’t fully recovered from his broken leg so he shouldn’t be on your radar until later in the season. Fitness will be a worry, having missed most of the pre-season.
Danny Stanley – With rumours of more midfield time, Danny could increase on his 2012 average of 90. However we won’t find out if these rumours are true just yet. He has gained DPP status, able to be selected in the forward and back lines which makes him a valid POD pick.
Who to watch:
Jaeger O’Meara – Possibly the most hyped up rookie prospect of the season, this youngster should already be a lock in your midfield. Jaeger is an absolute jet, would have played last year if not for his age. Will thrive with the best player in the game in Gary Ablett as a mentor.
Greg Broughton - We all know that Broughton is on many coaches’ “never again” list after averaging the lowest points in his career. However at a new club he could possibly play to his full potential. Was restricted by ‘RTB’, should get back to his best under Bluey McKenna.
Gary Ablett – Do we need to mention his name? Of course you will all be watching to see if he is worth his $740k price tag. May get rested for one of the games. Still your #1 captain option every week.
HAWTHORN -
Squad:
2. Jarryd Roughead, 4. Matthew Suckling, 6. Josh Gibson, 10. Bradley Hill, 13. Kyle Cheney, 14. Grant Birchall, 16. Isaac Smith, 17. Brian Lake, 18. Brent Guerra, 19. Jack Gunston, 20. David Hale, 21. Shane Savage, 22. Luke Breust, 23. Lance Franklin, 24. Ben Stratton, 25. Ryan Schoenmakers, 27. Matt Spangher, 28. Paul Puopolo, 29. Will Langford, 30. Luke Lowden, 31. Angus Litherland, 32. Jonathan Simpkin, 33. Cyril Rioli, 34. Jordan Kelly, 35. Sam Grimley, 37. Jed Anderson, 38. Mitch Hallahan, 39. Max Bailey, 40. Tim O'Brien, 41. Taylor Duryea, 42. Kaiden Brand, 43. Amos Frank, 46. Derick Wanganeen, 47. Jonathon Ceglar
Key Outs:
Sam Mitchell/Luke Hodge/Jordan Lewis/Brad Sewell/Shaun Burgoyne – 5 of Hawthorn’s premier midfielders will be sitting out against the Lions & Suns. This opens the door for some of the Hawks’ younger players to step up and showcase their potential.
Who to watch:
Lance Franklin – It will be interesting to see how Buddy performs in his first hitout since delaying contract talk with the Hawks. Needs to work on his accuracy after a career low 52% in front of goal in 2012. Regardless, Franklin is a must have for most coaches, unless you think you can risk it without him (tough draw first up, contract talks, etc). Like Ablett, he may get rested, but there is no doubt the highest priced SuperCoach forward will put on a show.
Brian Lake – Hawthorn love to chip it around the back line, and Lake should thrive under this new game style. Hopefully a new club will turn around his downward SuperCoach spiral.. Another one to keep an eye on.
Luke Breust – Breust is a classy small forward who kicked 45 goals last year in a team with Franklin, Roughead and Rioli. Another player who is rumoured to be given more midfield time. He has the tank for it, and should get his chance this week in the absence of the Hawks’ midfielders. Consider as a breakout POD player for your forward line.
CARLTON v SYDNEY v GWS
Sunday, Feb 24, Blacktown ISP 4:40pm.
CARLTON -
Squad:
1. Andrew Walker, 3.Marc Murphy, 4. Bryce Gibbs, 6. Kade Simpson, 7. Dylan Buckley, 9. Kane Lucas, 10. Matthew Watson, 11. Robert Warnock, 12. Mitch Robinson, 13. Chris Yarran, 14. Brock McLean, 15. Jeremy Laidler, 16. Andrew Collins, 17. Sam Rowe, 19. Eddie Betts, 20. Rhys O'Keeffe, 21. Josh Bootsma, 22. Shaun Hampson, 23. Lachie Henderson, 24. Patrick McCarthy, 27. Dennis Armfield, 28. Tom Bell, 31. Marcus Davies, 34. Nick Duigan, 35. Ed Curnow, 38. Jeff Garlett, 40. Michael Jamison, 41. Levi Casboult, 42. Zach Tuohy, 43. Simon White, 44. Andrew Carrazzo, 45. Aaron Joseph, 46. David Ellard
Key Outs:
Chris Judd/Jarrad Waite- The former blues Captain won’t be seen this weekend due to minor hamstring worries but is expected to return to the footy field in the near future. As is forward Jarrad Waite while he nurses a calf niggle.
Matthew Kreuzer/Heath Scotland - The pair will also sit out this weekend but aren’t too big of a concern. Kreuzer being out will allow Sam Rowe (see below) to have a decent crack.
Who to watch:
Marc Murphy - It’s a good sign that Marc is lining up this week, he’s had an interrupted pre season and wouldn’t be played by Mick unless he was 100%, he’s slightly underpriced SuperCoach wise and we should see his class and dominance on display this weekend.
Bryce Gibbs - This bloke is currently in a third of all SuperCoach sides, and I imagine he’s in your squad if you’re reading this, if not he would be high on your radar. Enormous talent, is expected to get more midfield time under Malthouse, hopefully he delivers on Sunday!
Chris Yarran - Mid priced defender who could be a steal at 362k if he gets more midfield time (as it has been rumoured) and isn’t handed the vest as often as last year, keep an eye on him because he could provide terrific value.
Sam Rowe - One of the more significant blues rookies that we will see this weekend, the FWD/RUC looms as a great bench option to use with Cox, NicNat, Roughead, Ryder and other DPP Rucks that may be in your side. At 25 years old he should see more than a few games this season.
GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY -
Squad:
1. Phil Davis, 2. Curtly Hampton, 4. Toby Greene, 5. Dylan Shiel, 6. Lachie Whitfield, 7. Rhys Palmer, 9. Tom Scully, 10. Devon Smith, 11. Taylor Adams, 12. Jonathon Patton, 13. Sam Darley, 14. Tomas Bugg, 15. Tim Golds, 16. Nathan Wilson, 17. Adam Treloar, 18. Jeremy Cameron, 20. Adam Tomlinson, 21. Matt Buntine, 22. Shaun Edwards, 23. Sam Reid, 25. Anthony Miles, 26. Jonathan Giles, 28. Liam Sumner, 30. Lachie Plowman, 31. Jacob Townsend, 32. Gerald Ugle, 35. Aidan Corr, 37. Setanta O'hAilpin, 38. Stephen Gilham, 39. Tim Mohr, 40. Adam Kennedy, 42. Mark Whiley, 43. Kurt Aylett, 48. Sam Frost
Key Outs:
Callan Ward - Only precautionary, we’ll see him back soon. Looks likely to build on a great 2012 season this year, he’s worth a thought.
Who to watch:
Lachie Whitfield - The number 1 draft pick, Whitfield, is a brilliant footballer with a skill set better than most, he averaged a massive 141 SC in last years Under 18’s Championships, but with this comes his higher price tag of almost $200,000.
Toby Greene - This extremely talented young footballer averaged just over 94 points last year in what was his first season of AFL, He’s priced at 506k and is a real smokie, coming off his first full preseason this summer and he’s been pulled up multiple times and been told to slow down and take it easy by coaching staff, he’s got a great attitude and will improve even further this season.
Jonathon Patton - 2011’s number 1 pick is quite cheap to start the year, priced at a low 242k, he’s injury free and will be able to show us his real ability this season.
SYDNEY SWANS -
Squad:
1. Tim Membrey, 3. Jarrad McVeigh, 4. Daniel Hannebery, 5. Ryan O'Keefe, 6. Tom Mitchell, 7. Harry Cunningham, 9. Nick Malceski, 11. Jed Lamb, 12. Josh Kennedy, 13. Andrejs Everitt, 14. Craig Bird, 15. Kieren Jack, 17. Tommy Walsh, 18. Jesse White, 19. Tony Armstrong, 20. Sam Reid, 22. Dean Towers, 23. Jordan Lockyer, 24. Jude Bolton, 25. Ted Richards, 26. Luke Parker, 28. Matthew Dick, 30. Lewis Roberts-Thomson, 31. Harry Marsh, 32. Lewis Jetta, 33. Brandon Jack, 34. Alex Johnson, 35. Sam Naismith, 36. Alex Brown, 38. Mike Pyke, 39. Heath Grundy, 42. Xavier Richards, 43. Dane Rampe, 44. Jake Lloyd, 46. Shane Biggs
Key Outs:
Adam Goodes/Shane Mumford - Besides these too guns, the reigning premiers are fielding a very strong side for the weekend. Goodes said he is aiming to play round 1 and Mummy has an ankle concern but won’t be sidelined for too much longer from reports.
Who to watch:
Daniel Hannebery - Genuine break out contender right here, he’s averaged low 80’s in the past 3 seasons but has shown glimpses of his true ability, non more so than in last Finals where he averaged 29 touches and 110 SC points including a 141 SC point performance from 28 touches, 5 tackles and a goal in the Grand Final.
Josh Kennedy/Kieran Jack - Too absolute guns, Kennedy jumped in average by 24 points last season and will start as the 6th most expensive SuperCoach player. Jack is priced at a lower 601k and is another solid pick, you only have to look at his scores from the second half on last season to see why.
Jed Lamb/Tom Mitchell - Lamb, taken pick number 21 in the draft of 2010 averaged 98 SC in the NEAFL last season, it’ll be great to see him run around but he’ll find it hard to break into this strong Sydney line up. Mitchell is on of the best young kids going around, although he battled injuries last year he still managed to average 110 SC points in the NEAFL and is strongly pushing for senior selection, be wary of the vest though when he does.
MELBOURNE -
Squad:

If he can keep up consistent numbers he is definitely one worth considering, especially at only $360k
Tom Rockliff – Rocky may be a little overpriced, but with lack of Supercoach forward options and more midfield time, he could be a handy player. Needs to find some consistency in the NAB cup first.
Claye Beams – Dayne Beams’ younger brother has been impressive this pre-season, and should get more game time than ever in 2013. Huge potential, but is awkwardly priced at $355k. Watch closely
GOLD COAST-
Squad:
1. Jaeger O'Meara, 2. Zac Smith, 3. Jared Brennan, 4. Maverick Weller, 5. Jarrod Harbrow, 6. Alex Sexton, 7. Karmichael Hunt, 8. Luke Russell, 9. Gary Ablett, 11. Harley Bennell, 12. Sam Day, 13. Jacob Gillbee, 14. Matthew Warnock, 15. Daniel Gorringe, 16. Rory Thompson, 17. Steven May, 19. Tom Lynch, 21. Jeremy Taylor, 23. Charlie Dixon, 24. David Swallow, 26. Matt Shaw, 29. Tom Murphy, 30. Campbell Brown, 31. Jackson Allen, 33. Aaron Hall, 34. Jack Hutchins, 35. Michael Rischitelli, 36. Greg Broughton, 37. Jesse Lonergan, 38. Joel Wilkinson, 40. Andrew Boston, 42. Kyal Horsley
Key Outs:
Nathan Bock – Unfortunately hasn’t fully recovered from his broken leg so he shouldn’t be on your radar until later in the season. Fitness will be a worry, having missed most of the pre-season.
Danny Stanley – With rumours of more midfield time, Danny could increase on his 2012 average of 90. However we won’t find out if these rumours are true just yet. He has gained DPP status, able to be selected in the forward and back lines which makes him a valid POD pick.
Who to watch:
Jaeger O’Meara – Possibly the most hyped up rookie prospect of the season, this youngster should already be a lock in your midfield. Jaeger is an absolute jet, would have played last year if not for his age. Will thrive with the best player in the game in Gary Ablett as a mentor.
Greg Broughton - We all know that Broughton is on many coaches’ “never again” list after averaging the lowest points in his career. However at a new club he could possibly play to his full potential. Was restricted by ‘RTB’, should get back to his best under Bluey McKenna.
Gary Ablett – Do we need to mention his name? Of course you will all be watching to see if he is worth his $740k price tag. May get rested for one of the games. Still your #1 captain option every week.
HAWTHORN -
Squad:
2. Jarryd Roughead, 4. Matthew Suckling, 6. Josh Gibson, 10. Bradley Hill, 13. Kyle Cheney, 14. Grant Birchall, 16. Isaac Smith, 17. Brian Lake, 18. Brent Guerra, 19. Jack Gunston, 20. David Hale, 21. Shane Savage, 22. Luke Breust, 23. Lance Franklin, 24. Ben Stratton, 25. Ryan Schoenmakers, 27. Matt Spangher, 28. Paul Puopolo, 29. Will Langford, 30. Luke Lowden, 31. Angus Litherland, 32. Jonathan Simpkin, 33. Cyril Rioli, 34. Jordan Kelly, 35. Sam Grimley, 37. Jed Anderson, 38. Mitch Hallahan, 39. Max Bailey, 40. Tim O'Brien, 41. Taylor Duryea, 42. Kaiden Brand, 43. Amos Frank, 46. Derick Wanganeen, 47. Jonathon Ceglar
Key Outs:
Sam Mitchell/Luke Hodge/Jordan Lewis/Brad Sewell/Shaun Burgoyne – 5 of Hawthorn’s premier midfielders will be sitting out against the Lions & Suns. This opens the door for some of the Hawks’ younger players to step up and showcase their potential.
Who to watch:
Lance Franklin – It will be interesting to see how Buddy performs in his first hitout since delaying contract talk with the Hawks. Needs to work on his accuracy after a career low 52% in front of goal in 2012. Regardless, Franklin is a must have for most coaches, unless you think you can risk it without him (tough draw first up, contract talks, etc). Like Ablett, he may get rested, but there is no doubt the highest priced SuperCoach forward will put on a show.
Brian Lake – Hawthorn love to chip it around the back line, and Lake should thrive under this new game style. Hopefully a new club will turn around his downward SuperCoach spiral.. Another one to keep an eye on.
Luke Breust – Breust is a classy small forward who kicked 45 goals last year in a team with Franklin, Roughead and Rioli. Another player who is rumoured to be given more midfield time. He has the tank for it, and should get his chance this week in the absence of the Hawks’ midfielders. Consider as a breakout POD player for your forward line.
CARLTON v SYDNEY v GWS
Sunday, Feb 24, Blacktown ISP 4:40pm.
CARLTON -
Squad:
1. Andrew Walker, 3.Marc Murphy, 4. Bryce Gibbs, 6. Kade Simpson, 7. Dylan Buckley, 9. Kane Lucas, 10. Matthew Watson, 11. Robert Warnock, 12. Mitch Robinson, 13. Chris Yarran, 14. Brock McLean, 15. Jeremy Laidler, 16. Andrew Collins, 17. Sam Rowe, 19. Eddie Betts, 20. Rhys O'Keeffe, 21. Josh Bootsma, 22. Shaun Hampson, 23. Lachie Henderson, 24. Patrick McCarthy, 27. Dennis Armfield, 28. Tom Bell, 31. Marcus Davies, 34. Nick Duigan, 35. Ed Curnow, 38. Jeff Garlett, 40. Michael Jamison, 41. Levi Casboult, 42. Zach Tuohy, 43. Simon White, 44. Andrew Carrazzo, 45. Aaron Joseph, 46. David Ellard
Key Outs:
Chris Judd/Jarrad Waite- The former blues Captain won’t be seen this weekend due to minor hamstring worries but is expected to return to the footy field in the near future. As is forward Jarrad Waite while he nurses a calf niggle.
Matthew Kreuzer/Heath Scotland - The pair will also sit out this weekend but aren’t too big of a concern. Kreuzer being out will allow Sam Rowe (see below) to have a decent crack.
Who to watch:
Marc Murphy - It’s a good sign that Marc is lining up this week, he’s had an interrupted pre season and wouldn’t be played by Mick unless he was 100%, he’s slightly underpriced SuperCoach wise and we should see his class and dominance on display this weekend.
Bryce Gibbs - This bloke is currently in a third of all SuperCoach sides, and I imagine he’s in your squad if you’re reading this, if not he would be high on your radar. Enormous talent, is expected to get more midfield time under Malthouse, hopefully he delivers on Sunday!
Chris Yarran - Mid priced defender who could be a steal at 362k if he gets more midfield time (as it has been rumoured) and isn’t handed the vest as often as last year, keep an eye on him because he could provide terrific value.
Sam Rowe - One of the more significant blues rookies that we will see this weekend, the FWD/RUC looms as a great bench option to use with Cox, NicNat, Roughead, Ryder and other DPP Rucks that may be in your side. At 25 years old he should see more than a few games this season.
GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY -
Squad:
1. Phil Davis, 2. Curtly Hampton, 4. Toby Greene, 5. Dylan Shiel, 6. Lachie Whitfield, 7. Rhys Palmer, 9. Tom Scully, 10. Devon Smith, 11. Taylor Adams, 12. Jonathon Patton, 13. Sam Darley, 14. Tomas Bugg, 15. Tim Golds, 16. Nathan Wilson, 17. Adam Treloar, 18. Jeremy Cameron, 20. Adam Tomlinson, 21. Matt Buntine, 22. Shaun Edwards, 23. Sam Reid, 25. Anthony Miles, 26. Jonathan Giles, 28. Liam Sumner, 30. Lachie Plowman, 31. Jacob Townsend, 32. Gerald Ugle, 35. Aidan Corr, 37. Setanta O'hAilpin, 38. Stephen Gilham, 39. Tim Mohr, 40. Adam Kennedy, 42. Mark Whiley, 43. Kurt Aylett, 48. Sam Frost
Key Outs:
Callan Ward - Only precautionary, we’ll see him back soon. Looks likely to build on a great 2012 season this year, he’s worth a thought.
Who to watch:
Lachie Whitfield - The number 1 draft pick, Whitfield, is a brilliant footballer with a skill set better than most, he averaged a massive 141 SC in last years Under 18’s Championships, but with this comes his higher price tag of almost $200,000.
Toby Greene - This extremely talented young footballer averaged just over 94 points last year in what was his first season of AFL, He’s priced at 506k and is a real smokie, coming off his first full preseason this summer and he’s been pulled up multiple times and been told to slow down and take it easy by coaching staff, he’s got a great attitude and will improve even further this season.
Jonathon Patton - 2011’s number 1 pick is quite cheap to start the year, priced at a low 242k, he’s injury free and will be able to show us his real ability this season.
SYDNEY SWANS -
Squad:
1. Tim Membrey, 3. Jarrad McVeigh, 4. Daniel Hannebery, 5. Ryan O'Keefe, 6. Tom Mitchell, 7. Harry Cunningham, 9. Nick Malceski, 11. Jed Lamb, 12. Josh Kennedy, 13. Andrejs Everitt, 14. Craig Bird, 15. Kieren Jack, 17. Tommy Walsh, 18. Jesse White, 19. Tony Armstrong, 20. Sam Reid, 22. Dean Towers, 23. Jordan Lockyer, 24. Jude Bolton, 25. Ted Richards, 26. Luke Parker, 28. Matthew Dick, 30. Lewis Roberts-Thomson, 31. Harry Marsh, 32. Lewis Jetta, 33. Brandon Jack, 34. Alex Johnson, 35. Sam Naismith, 36. Alex Brown, 38. Mike Pyke, 39. Heath Grundy, 42. Xavier Richards, 43. Dane Rampe, 44. Jake Lloyd, 46. Shane Biggs
Key Outs:
Adam Goodes/Shane Mumford - Besides these too guns, the reigning premiers are fielding a very strong side for the weekend. Goodes said he is aiming to play round 1 and Mummy has an ankle concern but won’t be sidelined for too much longer from reports.
Who to watch:
Daniel Hannebery - Genuine break out contender right here, he’s averaged low 80’s in the past 3 seasons but has shown glimpses of his true ability, non more so than in last Finals where he averaged 29 touches and 110 SC points including a 141 SC point performance from 28 touches, 5 tackles and a goal in the Grand Final.
Josh Kennedy/Kieran Jack - Too absolute guns, Kennedy jumped in average by 24 points last season and will start as the 6th most expensive SuperCoach player. Jack is priced at a lower 601k and is another solid pick, you only have to look at his scores from the second half on last season to see why.
Jed Lamb/Tom Mitchell - Lamb, taken pick number 21 in the draft of 2010 averaged 98 SC in the NEAFL last season, it’ll be great to see him run around but he’ll find it hard to break into this strong Sydney line up. Mitchell is on of the best young kids going around, although he battled injuries last year he still managed to average 110 SC points in the NEAFL and is strongly pushing for senior selection, be wary of the vest though when he does.
