Back for season 2013, welcome again to your weekly update regarding who needs to join or leave your Supercoach team. We’ll take a more relaxed feel into this segment this year – more like a chat at the pub over a few beers.
Whilst the attraction is always large after round one to ditch under-performing players (especially with the increased number of trades in season 2013), hear my advice loud and clear…RESIST THE TEMPTATION PEOPLE! You chose your team after hours (sometimes days or weeks) of relentless research, pouring over stats and articles and finally arriving at a team you could happily call your own, full of stars you believed could get the job done. Do you ditch all that after one bad week? Hell no. You are not running the AFL, so there is no place for knee-jerk reactions around here. Sit tight my friends, this Supercoach caper is a marathon, not a sprint. Of course, if someone fails again next week…then we’ll discuss that then.

On the ‘banged up’ front, and there are only two real injury concerns to note – unlucky WCE Mark LeCRAS, and Carlton goal-sneak Eddie BETTS. In only 3% of teams, Baggy-Shorts Betts has a broken jaw, which Carlton are saying will sideline him for this week at least – I’d be thinking more like two or three. If you are unfortunate enough to have him – and you have to ask yourself why – look to his teammate Andrew WALKER (137 pts), Port’s POD Jay SCHULZ (134) or returning Eagle Josh J KENNEDY (109), the latter choice pocketing you a tidy sum of $128,000 in the process.
As for the slighter cheaper LeCRAS, the poor bugger can’t take a trick. Returning from a knee reco to score a tidy 91 in an amazing 25% of SC teams, he was smashed by the scrabble-hand Tendai MZUNGU, breaking his arm in the process. Out for 2 to 3 weeks, you can either hold or pull the trigger. If he’s out of your team for good, look for team mate KENNEDY (see above), Port Powers Angus MONFRIES (112), the Bulldogs unassuming Tory DICKSON (118) or improving Saint Arryn SIPOSS (96) as possible replacements.
Not a bad weekend injury-wise, but we all know that will change as the season rolls on. Be sure to check back each week to find out what alterations you need to make to stay competitive in the battle for the fifty grand.
