No prizes for guessing who heads the list of injuries this week, as we all try and digest the impact of the giant from Fremantle going down for a month. Do you keep him or do you trade him? That connundrum, and a few other important questions, form the platform of this week’s Trade Winds.
Aaron SANDILANDS (Fremantle. Value - $554,000. Out for a month with a toe injury)
Yep, the biggest big man of them all has succumbed to a toe injury. Kinda bizarre huh? In an incredible 48% of SC teams, Sandi has averaged an awesome 121 pts per game this season, and has pretty much been a must have in most teams. So what do you do with him now? A month can be a long time, but if at all possible, keep the big fella – it will pay off in the end.
Possibilities : Dean COX (WCE) – $513,200. Av 126
Shane MUMFORD (Syd) - $476,300 Av 108
Todd GOLDSTEIN (Nth) - $448,800 Av 104
Brad OTTENS (Gee) - $405,600 Av 100
Value pick and My Choice – HOLD ONTO SANDI AND RIDE IT OUT!!!!
Luke TAPSCOTT (Melbourne. Value - $264,300. Out for 3 to 4 weeks with hammy)
Another popular selection in 41% of SC teams, this rookie Demon has been a solid performer, averaging 70 pts per game and rising $154,100 dollars in value. In a struggling Melbourne line-up, TAPSCOTT has been one highlight for supporters – but a hamstring injury has put paid to that. He has made us all money, now it’s time to move him on.
Possibilities: Jack STEVEN (StK) - $255,900 Av 58
Lindsay THOMAS (Nth) - $253,300 Av 58
James POLKINGHORNE (Bris) - $234,600 Av 55
Jack GUNSTON (Adel) - $190,700 Av 60
Arryn SIPPOSS (StK) - $133,500 Av 48
Tendai MZUNGU (Freo) - $110,200 Av 14
Value Pick and My Choice – Get him on board and use the cash to upgrade elsewhere.
Dylan GRIMES (Richmond. Value - $246,100. Out for 12 weeks with serious hamstring injury)
In a blow to the rising Tiger army, young defender GRIMES has severely torn his hamstring in a similar injury to that of Riewoldt and Gibson in 2010. Averaging 62 pts per game but holding down a key defensive post, GRIMES was only selected in just under 1% of teams, but will be lucky to return to the field in 2011. So, who are the options?
Possibilities : Jake BATCHELOR (Rich) - $243,700 Av 57
Michael PETTIGREW (Port) - $239,700 Av 58
Clancee PEARCE (Freo) - $238,600 Av 65
Simon BUCKLEY (Coll) - $219,400 Av 67
Paul PUOPOLO (Haw) - $154,000 Av 66
Ben JACOBS (Port) - $113,600 Av 56
My Choice and Value Pick – HUGE expectations
Well, that’s it as far as major injuries for this week go – the only other consideration was Brisbane Lion Tom ROCKLIFF, however it seems might only miss one week with an Achilles injury. In terms of form, those who stuck with Saints duo RIEWOLDT and GODDARD would finally be pleased with a large return last week – persistence sometimes does pay off. Having said that, there are two stars I would definitely look at biting the bullet with and moving them on – Alan DIDAK and Shaun HIGGINS. These two have been woeful this year, with HIGGINS being a perpetual let-down for SC teams. It seems DIDAK has lost his touch too, a shadow of the player he has been in previous years. It might come back to haunt you, but I reckon the time has come – get these two out.
