They are calling it “Christmas in July” – potentially one of the best rounds of football we have experienced for quite some time. Will it live up to the hype? Time will tell, but what’s more important is how your SC team is looking heading toward the last few games of the regular season. With injuries and suspensions again playing a part this week, coaches need to think long and hard about exactly what to do with their remaining trades – how much do you need to win, and how many players can you carry before the burden becomes too much to bear?
Chris JUDD (Carlton. Value - $524,200. Av 109. Suspended for a month)
Chris JUDD (Carlton. Value - $524,200. Av 109. Suspended for a month)
What the hell was the golden boy thinking? In one of the more bizarre things you will see on a football field (especially from a player of Juddy’s ilk), JUDDs brain fade and subsequent “chicken wing” tackle has resulted in him missing the next month of football – at the worst possible time for his club and your SC team. The 14.5% of teams who have him in their midfield must trade him – he simply is too valuable to have sitting on your pine at the business end of the SC season.
Possibilities : Lenny HAYES (St.K) - $520,200 Av 106
Callan WARD (GWS) - $517,900 Av 107 My Choice – Great Point-Of-Difference
Steele SIDEBOTTOM (Coll) - $510,700 Av 109
Tom ROCKLIFF (Bris) - $506,400 Av 107
Paddy RYDER (Essendon. Value - $507,000. Av 108. Calf injury – out for three weeks)
Selected in a surprising 11% of SC teams, and with an equally-surprising average of 108 pts per game, RYDER has become one of the premier scoring SC ruckmen in the game in 2012. Another Bomber to succumb to a muscle strain this year, RYDER has torn his calf muscle and is expected to miss around 3 weeks – just that killer amount of time that always plays on your mind. Will he be back quicker or will his recovery take longer than expected? If you have enough trades in hand, get rid of him I say.
Possibilities : Darren JOLLY (Coll) - $494,200 Av 93
Jon GRIFFIN (Freo) - $470,600 Av 94
Ben HUDSON (Bris) - $468,000 Av 99 My Choice – Surprise Packet
Shane MUMFORD (Syd) - $425,100 Av 82
Jack ZIEBELL (Nth Melbourne. Value - $400,800. Av 83. Suspended for 4 weeks)
“I fought the law and the law won…I fought the law and the law won”. Can’t imagine that song will be played too much at the Kangaroos clubrooms after midfielder ZIEBELL fought his charge this week and lost, adding an extra week to his suspension, which now equals a month. Ouch. Considered a bit unlucky to even be cited by many experts, ZIEBELL must now sit out while his teams makes their run for the Finals. Unfortunately he’s also out of 2.5% of Sc teams, and that hurts just as much.
Possibilities : Clancee PEARCE (Freo) - $396,100 Av 84
Allen CHRISTENSEN (Nth) - $390,600 Av 79
Stephen HILL (Freo) - $380,400 Av 73
David MUNDY (Freo) - $377,800 Av 79 My Choice – On The Improve
Andrew WALKER (Carlton. Value - $347,200. Av 75. Calf injury – Out for Three Weeks)
Another to succumb to the dreaded calf injury, WALKER will be sorely missed by the Blues, especially with dynamo JUDD also in the stands. Selected in 2% of SC teams, the Carlton forward now looks like missing at least three weeks, which is a killer – especially if you already have other injured stars warming the bench. Three weeks is too long for a bit-part player like WALKER – move him on.
Possibilities : Ian CALLINAN (Adel) - $346,800 Av 72
Sam REID (Syd) - $342,100 Av 63 My Choice – Slowly Coming Good
Angus MONFRIES (Ess) - $333,800 Av 73
Luke POWER (GWS) - $330,600 Av 79
Mark JAMAR (Melbourne. Value - $368,100. Av 76. Calf Injury – Out 3 to 4 weeks)
Yes, here it is again – yet another calf injury cutting another player down at the valuable end of the season. Demon big man JAMAR is only selected in 2% of teams, however if he is one of your first choice ruckmen then to have him missing for a month is too long to handle.
Possibilities : Mike PYKE (Syd) - $342,200 Av 80
Zach SMITH (GC) - $331,900 Av 72 My Choice – Best Job Security
Jarrad REDDEN (Port) - $261,600 Av 72
Josh JENKINS (Adel) - $245,700 Av 70
TRADE OF THE WEEK
It’s off to the forwards again for our Trade of the Week – and if you have spare cash or spare trades, get on this bloke because he is ON FIRE. Fremantle captain Matthew PAVLICH has always been a SC favourite, extremely consistent and very reliable. 2012 has been a great year for the PAV in SC terms, averaging 105 pts per game for the year – including an average of 133 in the last 3 games and 123 in the last 5 games. The Supercoach Gold predictor estimates that in the next three rounds (against GWS, Port and WCE) the big fella should score 123, 129 and 123 respectively. Gotta love that. With PAV also being a dual position midfielder/forward and his team locked in a desperate race to make the finals, he ticks every box. Get him on board.
