Well, the last round of regular action in fantasy footy is finally upon us. The two big questions this week in relation to trades are (1) How many trades do you have left? and (2) How badly do you need to win this week? The answers to those two questions have a massive impact on whether you even think about trading this week or not. Unfortunately it may have been taken out of your hands if you own any of the following players – all who sustained injuries last weekend. Remember, if you don’t have to trade, then DON’T. Every trade not made now will be gold come Finals time.
Brent STANTON (Essendon. Value - $415,900. Av. 108. Hamstring strain – out 1 to 2 weeks ?)
Brent STANTON (Essendon. Value - $415,900. Av. 108. Hamstring strain – out 1 to 2 weeks ?)
The Bombers have kept very quiet about STANTON’s leg injury (they must be sick of talking about leg muscle strains!) but it appears that he will most likely miss one or two weeks with the complaint. Whilst he was on fire early and notching up some MASSIVE scores, his last 5 weeks have yielded an average of just 81 pts, and his last three weeks a mere 69 pts. STANTON, like his team, is flagging badly and this injury might have come at a good time for your SC team. The 17% of SC teams that have him need to get him out.
Possibilities : David ARMITAGE (St.K) - $414,000 Av 87
Chris MASTEN (WCE) - $413,400 Av 91
Liam ANTHONY (Nth) - $411,500 Av 89
Kade SIMPSON (Carl) - $405,500 Av 93 My Choice – Ball Magnet Back This Week
Sam REID (Sydney. Value - $334,200 Av 59. Knee Injury – Out For Three Weeks)
Talented Sydney youngster Sam REID is a vital key to the Swans, but they and the 7% of SC teams who selected him have to live without him for the next three weeks after a knee injury last weekend. REID has had an up and down year but was just starting to get back into some form, despite having an average of only 59 pts per game. A definite star of the future, if he is in your forwardline he has to go this week – the question becomes who to replace him with?
Possibilities : Sam WRIGHT (Nth) - $332,700 Av 71
Travis CLOKE (Coll) - $325,800 Av 81 My Choice – Worth the Chance
Stephen MOTLOP (Geel) - $321,100 Av 69
Michael WALTERS (Freo) - $317,600 Av 65
Joel COREY (Geelong. Value - $349,800 Av 77. Hamstring Strain – Out Two Weeks)
One of the Cats ageing midfielders, COREY has been just serviceable for the 1% of Sc teams who still have him in their side at this stage. Averaging a mere 77 pts per game, COREY hasn’t exactly set the world on fire, however he is a solid contributor who always gives 100%. His injury last weekend was only minor (some reports say he will only miss the one week), however if you need to win and you have him in your side – it’s time to move him on and get that elusive win.
Possibilities : Luke POWER (GWS) - $349,400 Av 82
Taylor ADAMS (GWS) - $341,300 Av 75
Nathan Van BERLO (Adel) - $337,600 Av 79
Jared BRENNAN (GC) - $301,800 Av 81 My Choice – The Unpredictable Wild Card
Daniel CROSS (Bulldogs. Value - $460,200. Av 99 Shoulder Injury – Out for the Season)
Another Supercoach veteran and perennial solid scorer, CROSS was crunched in a tackle by Beau WILKES last weekend and has had season-ending surgery on his shoulder as a result. CROSS has been very solid in a disappointing Bulldogs lineup this season, again averaging 99 pts per match. However, for the 1% of SC midfields that have him, he simply has to be trade – there is no other choice.
Possibilities : Harley BENNELL (GC) - $451,900 Av 93
Andrew GAFF (WCE) - $447,800 Av 93
Nathan FYFE (Freo) - $446,600 Av 83 My Choice – Take The Chance! A Star.
Scott SELWOOD (WCE) - $446,100 Av 103
TRADE OF THE WEEK
Are we on fire with this segment or what? The last two TOTW nominations – PAVLICH and MURPHY – have duly saluted, each scoring 160 pts on the week they were put up as suitable additions to your SC team. Jeepers, that puts some pressure on this week. After much thought, PAV’s Freo team mate Nat FYFE is the one to set your sights on for round 19. Back last week after an extended lay-off with shoulder issues, FYFE slipped back into the team with a creditable 87 pt game and will be better for the run. Down $139,100 for the season, FYFE is a bargain – and a FWD/MID to sweeten the deal even more. In only 3.5% of teams, the other thing to consider is FYFE’s SC finals run – Adelaide, Richmond, Nth Melbourne and Melbourne. Could be a couple of big scores in there.
