Why do it to us Collingwood? Did we never learn in recent years from Alan DIDAK and Heath SHAW? This time around it’s midfield star Dane SWAN who has suffered the brain fade, getting himself suspended for off-field behaviour as we enter the first week of SC Finals. Gee, thanks for that. In addition, a number of “fringe” or “point-of-difference” players have also been injured, making this week an interesting one on the trade table.
Dane SWAN (Collingwood. Value - $613,300. Av 124. Broke team rules – out for 2 weeks)
Dane SWAN (Collingwood. Value - $613,300. Av 124. Broke team rules – out for 2 weeks)
One of the absolute stars of SC footy, SWAN has rewarded those who picked him up this year with a very juicy average of 124 pts per game. A popular captain choice when GAJ looks like getting tagged, SWAN has let himself, his team mates and his fantasy coaches down by breaking team rules last weekend and allegedly having a bit of a “drinking” session. Suspended by the club for a fortnight, SWAN now leaves the 22% of SC teams who have him with a huge dilemma – trade or not trade?
Possibilities : Shane TUCK (Rich) - $611,400 Av 114
Kieran JACK (Syd) - $607,300 Av 115
Scott PENDLEBURY (Coll) - $606,400 Av 126 My Choice – Absolute Gun
Jobe WATSON (Ess) - $574,000 Av 123
Josh KENNEDY (Syd) - $571,800 Av 118
Joel SELWOOD (Geel) - $550,300 Av 121
Jason PORPLYZIA (Adelaide. Value - $428,700 Av 80. Shoulder Injury - ?????)
After injurying his troublesome shoulders again last weekend, huge question marks have been placed over PORP and whether he will front up again this week against the Dockers. Given his history and the importance of him come Finals time, I would be very surprised if he plays this week. In a surprising 28% of SC teams, PORP has been fairly consistent in 2012, averaging 80 pts per game – about the output his owners would’ve expected at the start of the year. If not named he must be considered for a trade – worse than that, if he is named but is a late withdrawal, he could cost you a final.
Possibilities - Adam GOODES (Syd) - $427,900 Av 93 My Choice – A No-Brainer
Jarrad WAITE (Carl) - $416,400 Av 90
Chad CORNES (GWS) - $406,800 Av 84
Michael JOHNSON (Freo) - $398,500 Av 91
Luke DAHLHAUS (Bulldogs. Value - $377,900 Av 84. Ankle injury – Out For The Season)
One of the few shining lights for the Doggies this season, former Geelong Falcon DAHLHAUS has been a livewire up forward in what has been a very lean year for his team. Averaging 84 pts per game for the 9% of teams that have selected him, DAHLHAUS has at least provided some spark and excitement in 2012, and is a definite player to watch in the future. The bad news is he has injured his ankle at training, and won’t be seen again for the year – a disappointing end to what has been a bit of a breakout year.
Possibilities : Jonathan BROWN (Bris) - $374,600 Av 77
Luke POWER (GWS) - $371,400 Av 82
Allen CHRISTENSEN (Geel) - $355,200 Av 78
Kurt TIPPETT (Adel) - $352,500 Av 87 My Choice – If Named, Grab Him
Callan WARD (GWS Value - $512,200 Av 107. Osteitis Pubis – Out Two Weeks at Least)
\ Another surprise packet of season 2012, WARD copped a fair amount of criticism for leaving the Doggies and heading to GWS, but he has silenced the knockers with his form out on the field. A leader amongst a young group of players, WARD has been a shinny light for the expansion side, averaging a very nice 107 pts per game for the 3% of SC teams who selected him. A very unique “point of difference” player heading into the SC Finals, WARD’s injury is a bitter blow to those who have him. Expect him to sit out the rest of the year – he must be traded.
Possibilities : Scott THOMPSON (Adel) - $511,700 Av 113 My Choice – Get Him In
Heath SCOTLAND (Carl) - $507,000 Av 101
Daniel WELLS (Nth) - $505,400 Av 102
Steel SIDEBOTTOM (Coll) - $491,400 Av 109
Jude BOLTON (Sydney. Value - $460,700 Av 95. Knee Injury – Out Three Weeks)
The heart and soul of the Sydney team, BOLTON is an inspirational leader and just keeps on playing good footy, year after year. Like most of his team, BOLTON is underrated by the football world in general – something that is reflected in the fantasy footy world, where he is only selected in 1% of teams despite a handy average of 95 pts per game. BOLTON will be desperately missed by the Swan midfield in the next few weeks, and if he was in your SC engine room, he has to be moved on.
Possibilities - Nathan FYFE (Freo) - $449,600 My Choice – Back to His Best
Shaun GRIGG (Rich) - $448,300 Av 98
Bryce GIBBS (Carl) - $448,000 Av 90
Simon BLACK (Bris) - $447,300 Av 93
TRADE OF THE WEEK
Unfortunately Nat FYFE couldn’t quite live up to the expectations set by the previous two TOTW nominations, only scoring a semi-respectable 104 pts last weekend. This week’s most important trade is an interesting one, and is aimed squarely at the 52% of teams who don’t have this player in their lineup. Buddy FRANKLIN. That’s right folks, if you were like me and traded BUDDY to PAV or someone similar when he got injured, you have benefitted enormously - but now it’s crunch time. With BUDDY taking on a rudderless Port Power in Tasmania (where he last scored 236 pts), it could get really ugly – and so could your opponents score if they have him and you don’t. Move hell or high water to get him in if you can. Otherwise, sit back and hope it pours rain on the Apple Isle.
