Well, that’s it – SC season over, and the Finals are upon us. Seems like only yesterday we were watching the NAB Cup with interest, keeping a keen eye on who to recruit for season 2011. With the first week of Finals here, whether you are in an elimination battle or a Top 4 match up, the most important thing to manage is your North Melbourne players, as they have the bye. With a couple of popular choices amongst them, this week we look at who to trade them for – if you have the chance. No major injuries last weekend helps, but as we always say, trades are GOLD – particularly at this time of year.
N.B. The possible trades are only from teams who do NOT have a bye for the remainder of the season.
Drew PETRIE (North Melbourne. Value $443,500. Bye)
In a massive 39% of SC teams, Kanga’s big man Drew PETRIE has been a popular pick coming back from injury in 2011. As either a forward or ruck, PETRIE has averaged a very nice 97 pts per game, rising in value a whopping $227,500 for the year. This week his omission causes some concern though, particularly if you have him in the ruck, where there are also question marks over Cox and Smith. That could spell major trouble – and lead to a trade.
Possibilities : As a Ruckman
Sam JACOBS (Adel) - $431,700 Av 93
Nic NATANUI (WCE) - $427,500 Av 92
Darren JOLLY (Coll) - $382,400 Av 85 My Choice & Value–Very Consistent
David HALE (Haw) - $378,100 Av 74
Zac CLARKE (Freo) - $374,300 Av 81
As a Forward
Robbie GRAY (Port) - $428,100 Av 86
Ryan O’KEEFE (Syd) - $418,600 Av 102 My Choice – Absolute Gun
Cyril RIOLI (Haw) - $416,400 Av 98
Stephen MILNE (St K) - $406,300 Av 76
Mark LeCRAS (WCE) - $400,100 Av 88
Daniel GIANSIRACUSA (Bull) - $393,600 Av 88 Value Pick – Quality
Brent HARVEY (North Melbourne. Value - $413,900. Bye)
Another very popular choice in 15% of SC teams as either a forward or midfielder, the Kangaroo General has again proven to be a wise investment in 2011, averaging just on 100 pts per game, despite dropping $74,500 for the year. Boomer just keeps on keeping on, willing himself from contest to contest and providing run, drive and experience for his young team. However there is no room for sentiment in SC finals, and if you don’t have adequate bench coverage for the little fella this weekend, then he has to go.
Possibilities : As a Midfielder
Jordan LEWIS (Haw) - $407,700 Av 87
Daniel CROSS (Bull) - $404,300 Av 93 My Choice - Elite
Luke SHUEY (WCE) - $400,900 Av 91
Daniel KERR (WCE) - $396,900 Av 90
Josh KENNEDY (Syd) - $384,600 Av 94 Value Pick – Going Well
As a Forward
Stephen MILNE (St K) - $406,300 Av 77
Mark LeCRAS (WCE) - $400,100 Av 88
Daniel GIANSIRACUSA (Bull) - $393,600 Av 89
Adam SCHNEIDER (St K) - $384,000 Av 82
Heath GRUNDY (Syd) - $376,800 Av 89
Colin SYLVIA (Melb) - $374,900 Av 94
Todd GOLDSTEIN (North Melbourne. Value $506,700. Bye)
The big Kangaroo beanpole has developed into one of the league’s premiere ruckman, averaging 115 pts per game for season 2011. Selected in only 7 % of teams this year, GOLDY has been a great point-of-difference ruckman, and has been consistently good week-in and week-out. This has been a breakout year for him, and he can expect to be selected in a lot more teams in 2012. For now though, particularly with concerns over other ruckman this week, he just might have to go.
Possibilities : Ben McEVOY (St K) - $471,900 Av 106 My Choice – or Mumford
Shane MUMFORD (Syd) - $456,400 Av 106 My Choice – or McEVOY
Matthew LUENBERGER (Bris) - $449,700 Av 95
Sam JACOBS (Adel) - $431,700 Av 93
Nick NATANUI (WCE) - $427,500 Av 92
Andrew SWALLOW (North Melbourne. Value $471,000. Bye)
Another midfield gun, SWALLOW is a ball-magnet, and tops it off with plenty of tackles – which, as we all know, are SC gold. Averaging 109 pts per game for the 6.5% of teams who selected him, SWALLOW has been a solid contributor in the guts, and a good point-of-difference player. With Finals on the line though, can you afford to bench a near half-a –million dollar midfield investment? Unless you have some cover, the answer is clearly no.
Possibilities : Luke BALL (Coll) - $470,200 Av 100
Jack REDDEN (Bris) - $456,000 Av 103
Michael BARLOW (Freo) - $454,900 Av 85
Brad SEWELL (Haw) - $454,200 Av 98
Ryan GRIFFEN (Bull) - $443,700 Av 108
Matthew BOYD (Bull) - $437,800 Av 112 My Choice and Value Pick - Gun
That’s it for this week. Good luck in the Finals, hopefully you get over the line – unless you are playing me! Tune in next week as we dissect the popular Geelong players in the wake of their bye, and look at who to replace them with to keep your SC campaign alive.
