Has there ever been one single round where serious injuries have potentially impacted on SC teams as badly as last weekend? With some last minute withdrawals on top of that (Mumford, Fyfe, Birchall) round 4 was a nightmare for many teams, and has led to some serious re-thinking for this weekend. Trades are already lining up, and the following 6 players are all in the gun – and they don’t come any bigger than SC Superstar, Gary Ablett Jnr.
Gary ABLETT (Gold Coast. Value - $721,400. Av 149. Knee injury – out 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks?)
Like the sinking of the Titanic, losing Gary was something most of us never even contemplated would happen. The little master was flying, averaging a whopping 149 pts for the 56.5% of teams who had him. Gazza is SC royalty, and even the thought of trading him is almost sacrilegious – or is it? Depending on how many trades you have made up until this weekend, this could actually be the one move to help you climb up the rankings – so long as you keep the cash to enable yourself to get him back in when he returns!
Possibilities : Marc MURPHY (Carl) - $645,700 Av 129
Scott PENDLEBURY (Coll) - $632,700 Av 122
Dane SWAN (Coll) - $596,900 Av 105 My Choice – Absolute Bargain
Brent STANTON (Ess) - $591,200 Av 142
(Note : Too late for Swan I know – I apologise. He came into my team with a spectacular result!)
Andrew CARRAZZO (Carlton. Value - $481,500. Av 84. Fractured shoulder blade – 8 to 10 wks)
The Blue dynamo had really stepped up so far this season, averaging a whopping 110 pts per game prior to last weekend’s nightmare 3 pt game. Many had jumped onto the Carrazzo bandwagon (12%), particularly with Heath Shaw out, only to be so bitterly disappointed. As a midfielder or a defender, Carrazzo had provided great value, and will be sorely missed by both the Blues and the fantasy footy world in general.
Possibilities : As a Defender
Robert MURPHY (Bull) - $472,900 Av 94
Michael JOHNSON (Freo) - $437,200 Av 98 My Choice – Finally arrived?
As a Midfielder
Mitch ROBINSON (Carl) - $480,500 Av 88
Tendai MZUNGU (Freo) - $473,900 Av 101 My Choice – Very Unique
Gary ROHAN (Sydney. Value - $274,700. Av 49. Broken ankle/leg – out for the season)
In one of the more sickening clashes of recent years, Sydney speedster Gary ROHAN almost snapped his foot completely off his leg in what appeared to be a fairly innocuous collision last weekend. Rohan had kicked the first goal and looked in good touch, only to be cruelly struck down minutes later. A cheaper forward option who was averaging 61 prior to the injury, ROHAN now leaves the 4.75% of SC coaches who selected him in a real quandary for replacements.
Possibilities : Steven MOTLOP (Geel) - $272,800 Av 71
Terry MILERA (St.K) - $215,100 Av 68 My Choice – Good job security
Adam TRELOAR (GWS) - $113,200 Av 73
Bernie VINCE (Adelaide. Value - $403,800. Av 67. Broken hand – out for a month)
Down a whopping $72,000 for the 2.2% of SC teams who have him, Adelaide midfielder VINCE has been a serious disappointment in 2012 so far. VINCE has failed to capture his scintillating pre-season form, averaging a paltry 67 pts for a team that has been travelling pretty well. Maybe his injury is a blessing in disguise for his owners? Whatever the case, it’s time to move him on.
Possibilities : Andrew GAFF (WCE) - $403,400 Av 91
Allen CHRISTENSEN (Geel) - $378,600 Av 81
Luke PARKER (Syd) - $351,500 Av 88 My Choice – This Kid Can Play
Robbie GRAY (Port Adelaide. Value - $490,100. Av 70. ACL knee injury – gone for season)
If Gary ROHAN’s leg break was horrific, coming in a close second was Port star Robbie GRAY’s ACL rupture against Collingwood. Jumping up to contest a bouncing ball, GRAY’s knee bent at an angle that knee’s just shouldn’t go – as a result, he won’t be seen again for 2012. For the 2% of coaches who took a punt on the injury prone utility, it’s time to look elsewhere – and use another vital trade.
Possibilities : As a Midfielder
Shaun GRIGG (Rich) - $489,400 Av 107
Lenny HAYES (St.K) - $484,900 Av 108 My Choice - Lenny is a King
As a Forward
Jarrad WAITE (Carl) - $476,700 Av 101
Kurt TIPPETT (Adel) - $474,600 Av 122 My Choice – Coming of Age
Jarrod HARBROW (Gold Coast. Value - $405,800. Av 78. Elbow injury – out 12 weeks)
Lost in the controversy of life without Gazza for a few weeks was the additional blow to the Gold Coast experience stocks with HARBROW seriously injuring his elbow, causing him to sit out of the game for the next three months. The speedy HARBROW had been very serviceable in 2012, averaging 91 pts per game for the 1.5% of teams of which he was a part. Unfortunately he is just another who needs to be moved on after a weekend of absolute fantasy football carnage.
Possibilites : Beau WATERS (WCE) - $403,200 Av 86 My Choice – Tough as Nails
Sean DEMPSTER (St.K) - $400,000 Av 94
Josh DRUMMOND (Bris) - $369,400 Av 92 Schon's Smokey - Big scorer
Jarryn GEARY (St.K) - $333,600 Av 95
Well, let’s hope a weekend like that doesn’t reappear for the remainder of the season. If you need to trade, do it – the next 3 or 4 weeks could really start to shape ladders and leagues throughout the competition, and if you need to stay in touch it could be time to make the tough decisions.
So who are you trading this week? Are you keeping Gazza on the pnie
