Well, after last weekend’s round of football it looked like we had all escaped relatively unscathed – however, upon a closer look and with teams now out, there are some notable absentees who may force you hand in terms of trades. Your team should be somewhere near complete by now, but if you are desperate to keep winning to squirm your way into the top eight, then perhaps these players need to be moved on.
Jarman IMPEY - Port Adelaide - $277,100 Av 47
One of the more popular selections on our forward bench, IMPEY has had his ups and downs but at least has provided one ting throughout most of this season – all important coverage. However, this has all come to a halt with him being ‘rested’ due to ‘soreness’ this week, meaning that he no longer gives you that much-needed bench coverage should one of your forwards unexpectedly disappear. In an incredible 20% of SC teams, the time has come to move him on.

Options and Verdict : Only one option even worth considering here – Jeremy McGOVERN from the West Coast Eagles. Priced at just $213,200 and with an average of 92 pts per game thanks to a huge 146 pt game last weekend (and playing the Saints this weekend), McGOVERN ticks all the boxes AND makes you some cash to boot. Just do it.
Alex FASOLO - Collingwood - $324,000 Av 74
Another popular bench or F8 option in a lot of SC teams this year, it has been revealed that FASOLO has undergone a foot operation that will see him miss somewhere around the next month of football. What that means is you can either trade him down to McGOVERN to make the cash (see above) , or look to the names below to fill your squad of necessary.
Options : Nick RIEWOLDT (St K) - $378,500 Av 87
Taylor WALKER (Adel) - $379,200 Av 75
Chad WINGARD (Port) - $390,500 Av 82
Verdict : I’m a huge NRoo fan, but if you can get the cash to slot WINGARD into your team you should. These three all need a decent cash injection to come your way, but they represent the best value.
Paul CHAPMAN - Essendon - $432,700 Av 93
We were all warned at the start of the year that CHAPPY would be managed – that was the risk your took in selecting him, and its weeks like this one when it may come back to hurt the 11% of teams who still have him. He has been listed as ‘rested’ for this week’s match, meaning he will more than likely be back for the huge clash with Geelong next Friday night. However, if you need to win this week, maybe you can’t wait that long.
Options as a Mid : David ARMITAGE (St K) - $436,900 Av 78
Brent STANTON (Ess) - $437,500 Av 92
Dayne ZORKO (Bris) - $443,500 Av 92
Options as a Fwd - Jamie ELLIOTT (Coll) - $433,900 Av 90
Cyril RIOLI (Haw) - $442,300 Av 94
Dayne ZORKO (Bris) - $443,500 Av 92
Verdict : In the midfield, I like the choice of ZORKO as a replacement – he has found some consistency and is getting plenty of the footy. As a forward I don’t think you can lose with any of the three choices – but I’d go for RIOLI, just.
Harry TAYLOR - Geelong - $373,500 Av 72
I was most surprised to discover TAYLOR in 4% of SC teams after what has been – in SC terms at least – a pretty lean year for the defender. Last weekend he tweaked his knee a little against the Saints and is not named in this week’s team – will he only be out the one week, or will it swell to two or three? If you have the trades, now might be the time to move him on.
Options : James FRAWLEY (Melb) - $379,100 Av 80
Cale HOOKER (Ess) - $392,600 Av 89
Jack GRIMES (Melb) - $331,200 Av 75
Verdict : A bit of a left field choice here, but I actually like the look of GRIMES at that price, particularly on the back of a juicy 93 pts last weekend.
Dan HANNEBERRY - Sydney - $560,300 Av 103
The young gun Sydney midfielder – one of a few in the Harbour City – has succumbed to an ankle injury that could see him miss the next four to six weeks of football. He is currently still selected in 3.5% of SC teams, and had been travelling well with a 103 pt average, however a month is too long to keep him on the sidelines – and the replacements are top quality.
Options : Dion PRESTIA (GC) - $569,100 Av 111
Adam TRELOAR (GWS) - $559,100 Av 116
Joel SELWOOD (Geel) - $556,100 Av 114
Nat FYFE (Freo) - $549,000 Av 115
Verdict : Have a look at those averages – how can you go wrong? These four players are all sensational, but I’d lean toward either PRESTIA or FYFE, just because I love the way they play. How else can you split them?
That’s it for another week of trading in the SC world. Hopefully you still have a few trades up your sleeve as we slowly make our way toward the pointy end of the season. Remember, no one wins a flag in June!
