As we fast approach the SC Finals, many teams are battling hard for that top 8 or top 4 spot in their respective leagues. Whilst most of us are starting to run low on trades, last weekend so only a few players suffer injuries or suspension to keep them out of this week’s round of footy – but they were big names, and popular fantasy players. This means we are again faced with the eternal SC dilemma – to trade or not to trade? If you are trying to make the Finals, my advice is go for it – no point finishing 10th with 6 trades still in hand!
First cab off the rank this week, in an amazing 50% of SC teams, is Bulldogs defender/midfielder Brett GOODES (Av 91). Having a fantastic rookie season, GOODES has been a very popular choice, and his scores have reflected why he has been selected so much. However, he has now broken his arm and will miss the rest of the season, meaning he has to go. The best options as a defender are GIBBS (Av 96), HIBBERD (Av 95) and DUFFIELD (Av 86), while as a midfielder the most appealing
replacements seem to be GIBBS (Av 96), MONFRIES (Av 90) or WELLS (Av 92).
Next most popular star to fall by the wayside this week is Jimmy BARTEL (Av 106). Things went from bad to worse for Jimmy last weekend – he missed the snap to put his team back in front, then he got suspended for a week for a head high hit and will miss this weekend’s home match against the Saints. I know it’s only a week, but if you have to win, trading Jimmy could be just the solution. As a midfielder, look to replace him with DOUGLAS (Av 106), HANNEBERRY (Av 102) or ROCKLIFF (Av 102). If you have him in your forward line, the best options appear to be ROCKLIFF (Av 102), KENNEDY (Av 101) or Nick RIEWOLDT (Av 106).
Another defender who has bitten the dust and will cause some major headaches to SC teams is Brisbane running halfback Pearce HANLEY (Av 100). Selected in 26% of SC teams, HANLEY has been in impressive form the last few weeks after a quiet patch, but has now broken his hand and
will miss between 2 to 4 weeks. This in itself is a tricky “guesstimate” – for 2 weeks you might hold him, if its 4 he has to go. My advice is move him on, and the best replacements are MCKENZIE (Av
96), IBBOTSON (Av 98) and TAYLOR (Av 95).
To the last, and it’s one of the most exciting players in the game – big WCE ruckman Nic NAITANUI (Av 96). NICNAT hasn’t been on his game of late, and it’s now been revealed he has groin and quad issues that reek strongly of osteitis pubis, with some suggesting he won’t be back this season. Either way, if you have him he has to get the axe – the sooner the better. As a ruckman, look to replace him with PYKE (Av 92), CLARKE (Av 92) or NICHOLLS (Av 100). If you have the big fella as a forward, his substitutes seem to be STOKES (Av 95), MONFRIES (Av 90) or RIOLI (Av 93).
Well, that’s it for this week – not too many of the list, but boy could they do some damage to your SC team if you have them all.
