Ben Hudson
2012 Games: 18
2012 Ave: 92.9
2013 Club: Collingwood
Now at his fourth club, Hudson had a career best year in Supercoach terms last year with the Brisbane Lions, averaging 92.9 points per game. After Leuenberger went down, Hudson took over as the Lions sole ruckman and returned some impressive numbers averaging 25.2 hit-outs and 14.8 touches a game.
Hudson is a super competitive ruckman who thrives on the contested ball, with a huge 70% of his disposals being contested. Hudson will again make a comeback to the AFL with the 'Pies picking him up with pick 52 in the rookie draft, to help Darren Jolly out with the ruck work.
Hudson will play plenty of senior footy next year I’m sure while mentoring up-and-coming ruckmen Jarrod Witts and Brodie Grundy, although I’m not so sure about his scoring and/or role. He thrived as the number one ruckman last year and enjoys his workhorse role of playing a lot of game time.
Now playing second fiddle to Jolly, he won’t get as much time on the ball and it is unlikely he will rest up forward too often having only kicked 18 goals in his 161 game career. He has never been a huge scorer in Supercoach despite a quality 2012 season, and at 34 years of age I don’t see his scores improving at all. He will be a very useful asset to Collingwood in their bid for a premiership but he will be of no value to our Supercoach success. (Daniel)
