Picking the correct captain is at a premium this week, by now many of our sides are beginning to only have marginal differences. A unique and/or outstanding skipper may well prove the difference.
Last week Robbie Gray began the round by putting on a clinic against the hapless Blues and quickly shortened in Brownlow contention with 174 SC points. An unlikely scorer had the second most points for round 22 – Michael Hurley. He was the match winner against the Suns and earnt himself 170 points. Tom Rockliff (170) once again dominated as did Shane Mumford (164) who has been one of the recruits of the year.
Here are my captaincy selections for round 23!
Tom Rockliff
Not much needs to be said here. He is a freak! A scoring machine! Lock him in for your captain even against the Cats. He won’t let you down.
Jobe Watson
The unique option out of the four. I think Jobe is worth a gamble. Many would’ve picked him up a few weeks back as Dayne Beams fell; he hasn’t quite reached his best as yet. But he is a big-game player and enjoys playing Carlton. Worth a VC option.
Robbie Gray
If you needed any convincing just check out the footage of last Friday night. He was dynamic and destructive. It was no wonder he scored 174 points and with an average of 110 we know he is a consistent performer. Strongly consider.
Joel Selwood
One of the guns of the competition and always worth a look on the captaincy front. There may be options ahead of him, but Selwood at Simonds Stadium is always a chance for 150. Another to seriously consider.
Scott Pendlebury
Past 5 vs Hawthorn – 121, 110, 124, 105, 127
Given Pendlebury plays on tonight he is close to a must for your VC. The Collingwood midfield may be falling around him but they are playing for a finals spot and Pendles relishes the responsibility.
