Chris Knights
2012 Games: 5 2012 Average: 46.4 2013 Club: Richmond
Richmond’s recent record with recycling players has been pretty good, with Ivan Maric, Shaun Grigg and Bachar Houli the main players who have come off. No doubt Hardwick and the many supporters will be hoping for similar results from the recruitment of talented former-Crow Chris Knights.
In the 2004 he was the 56th pick overall, and he has since played 96 career games. His best season undoubtedly was 2009, where he played 20 matches and kicked 43 goals, including two hauls of five and two hauls of four.
Despite a previous history of spending some time in the midfield, expect Knights to be used predominantly as a foil for Jack Riewoldt, as the Tigers are lacking a quality medium crumbing or lead-up forward.
This may mean he numbers likely won’t be as high as in 2007-2009 where he averaged 91, 85 and 83 SC points respectively, but if he is given plenty of opportunities, who knows? He is likely to be priced around $250,000 next year, so it will definitely be a high-risk, high-reward selection.
