Shannon Byrnes
2012 games: 4 2012 average: 43 2013 club: Melbourne
This is the perfect example of picking up a player who couldn't fit in at one club, but should flourish at another.
Byrnes has been used sparingly at Geelong in the past two years, playing only eight matches in the successful Cats' outfit in this time. This means however, that Byrnes will be almost bargain priced come the start of 2013 (between $150,000 and $250,000).
Byrnes' best season without doubt was 2009, where Geelong (and Byrnes) won the AFL premiership and Byrnes himself averaged a solid 85 SuperCoach points per game.
Even though Byrnes spent quite a lot of time in the Geelong reserves' midfield, it is unlikely that he will pick up DPP status next year and will most likely be only available as a forward.
That said, with a solid pre-season (he has a good record with injuries), Byrnes looms as a perfect potential sixth or seventh forward as he will be a leader in a young and developing Demons side.
