Hey SuperCoaches,
Sorry that I didn’t do a write up on the website for last week’s POD choice. I did manage to get it up on Twitter and I selected an in form Rory Sloane who was only in 2% of sides at the time that I selected him. He didn’t go massive like his previous two games, but he scored a decent 102 and I’m hoping he’ll bounce back over the next two weeks with some 120+ scores.
It’s always an interesting situation making trades with 2 rounds left. Sometimes you need to take a risk or go with your gut feel. I normally say pick the best available, when you have the cash there and if you already have a few PODS. But with two rounds left, there may be one player in particular you like because he scores well against the two teams he has to play, or has been in good form for the previous 2-3 weeks. The choices made are even more crucial, as you would be kicking yourself if you select player ‘a’ over player ‘b’ and player ‘b’ ends up scoring more and costs you the prelim or league final. Don’t beat yourself up over it too much. We are only human and errors do get made, although they’re normally down to luck sometimes. There’s always a possibility of players being rested, particularly in teams playing finals, but I try not to let that factor into my thinking too much as it just hurts my head!
As for my team, well, I am not doing great. I had a team full of premiums and players averaging 90+. I had to burn trades due to HEAPS of injuries early on, so I now have 0 trades left. I thought my luck was due to change and I had started scoring around 2350-2400. I needed nothing to go wrong as I had 0 trades left, and then as if someone was picking on me, a lot (not only 1) of things went wrong. Ibbotson has been out for a few weeks and my backline cover Clisby copped a 3 week ban (and Thurlow is not in Geelong’s team). To add salt to my backline wounds, I have Hartlett who is now suspended also. In the midfield I had Judd cop the knee injury and I thought, “yep no worries, Tom Mitchell will cover him”… umm no he’s out as well. So I had to play Josh Saunders (for a miserable 21pts) who may be in the firing line come team line ups this week. I am hoping that Ibbotson is fit this week and Mitchell and Saunders are both picked, that way I can swing Saunders into defence for Hartlett. However, I will still have a 0 nonetheless and two rookies playing (AT BEST!!!!).
I hope my POD choice can help you in some way or another. Enjoy the read and feel free to leave a comment or hit me up on Twitter at @AaronSCAdvice.

Adam Cooney (WBD) - Midfielder
Price: $500,300 (b/e +91)
Selected In: 1.29%
Games: 18 Average: 97.28
2 Round Projection: 118pt average
It is always nice when I am able to choose players from my team for my weekly POD selections; it reiterates to me that I have made a good selection. This selection comes without bias though. Listen in to the following reasons why you should select Adam Cooney.
Projected: Cooney is projected to average 118 for the next two rounds. This is the 5th high projection for the SuperCoach comp and is the second highest projection for a POD, only second to Steele Sidebottom (122) who I have already done a write up for.
Recent form: Cooney has been a bit up and down and an average of 97 isn’t flattering when you want to really boost your side at this time of the year. However, he has averaged almost 113 in the past 5 games and after a form slump in rounds 12-15 he has scored: 103, 141, 105, 98, 101, 118, showing consistency and an ability for a decent score.
Versus Bris/Melb: Cooney averages 100 against Brisbane and 92 against Melbourne over his whole career. These aren’t his best averages against individual teams, but they’re certainly up there with his best, considering he averages 80s, 70s and even 60s against some teams. Over the past 3 years his games against both these sides have been up and down, but he has certainly shown good form at times against them recently.
He would be a perfect addition to any side, particularly if he is going to score 122 and 115 like his projected scores suggest. He is in good form of late and I think the fact that he has just resigned with the club and played his 200th game will mean that he might be up and about. I also like the Dogs’ recent form; seems like everyone at Footscray is up about. His low price may also tempt you, particularly if you’re needing to make a midfield trade but you don’t have a large salary cap to work with.
