G’Day SuperCoaches,
I am back for the second edition of Aaron’s PODs. I have received great feedback from my Twitter followers and I have developed a decent base of supporters within the first week. I have thoroughly enjoyed answering general SuperCoach questions (not JUST regarding PODs) on Twitter. Also feel free to use to comment box below to drop me a comment, ask some questions or leave your opinions.
Round 14 is shaping up to be a big one. Not only are people close to finalising their teams but they should also be back to full strength with the byes being over…THINK AGAIN! Injuries and suspensions have hit massively this week. Herald Sun have reported: M.Murphy (cheekbone 2-3 weeks), Birchall (knee 4-6), Mumford (cheek 2), Hurn (ankle 9-10), S.Selwood (thumb 6-8). These are all recent injuries during the byes to popular SuperCoach players; not to mention that Carrazzo, Ball, Dempsey, Barlow, Boak and B.Goodes are all listed as ‘test’ for various reasons. To top all those injuries off, Stevie J's 2 week suspension has been upheld and will cause some headaches.

I think my Round 13 PODs were reasonably successful, with Barlow 151 (although under an injury cloud this week), Ibbotson 98 and Petrie 65 the only down point. This week’s PODs are not owned by many coaches at all, the highest being 5%, yet they’re all great players in their own right.
Richard Douglas (ADE) - Midfielder
Price: $549,900 (b/e +160)
Selected In: 0.87%
Games: 12 Average: 107.25
3 Round Projection: 114pt average
The 2010 Adelaide Club Champion hasn’t received much love in the SuperCoach world. This is possibly because coaches have their favourites and tend not to look outside the square too often; something I have been guilty of myself. Prior to 2013 Douglas has averaged below 90pts every season which is not what you want in your team, especially from a midfielder.
But don’t let his past frighten you away. The guy is only 26 years old which should mean he is hitting his peak years as an AFL footballer.
He is also in a team with an abundance of great midfielders, in which the tags - much like the SuperCoach selections - tend to go towards Dangerfield, Sloane and Thompson. 2013 is not only Douglas’ best SuperCoach year (by far) but is his best average output of disposals (22.9 per game), marks (6.3), goals (1.1) and tackles (4.3).
He has produced only four scores below 100 (73, 79, 91, 99) and has shown he can go big, with four scores of 120+ (120, 128, 131, 141). His breakeven is high and he most likely won’t achieve it, but at this time of the year money may not be as much of an issue as finalising your team is. His projected scores on SuperCoach Gold show a low of 101 and a high of 126 for the rest of the season. He is my personal favourite POD and I have been watching his progress all year.
All I can say to you is GET ON! GET ON! GET ON!
Trent McKenzie (GCS) - Defender
Price: $462,500 (b/e +58)
Selected In: 2.07%
Games: 8 Average: 97.25
3 Round Projection: 100pt average
Trent ‘The Cannon’ McKenzie has a massive boot on him, similar to Shannon Hurn. As we all know with Hurn, there is an avenue to score well by rebounding lots, intercepting marks, being effective and by kicking long; precisely what McKenzie has done this year. He often plays that running defender role which we see so often with Shaw, Hurn, Ibbotson, et al. If those guys play well and manage a few intercept marks, they will pull good scores. Defensive options are thin this year, with only a handful averaging over 100. To top that off Birchall and Hurn have copped injuries, while B.Goodes is touch and go this week and there are rumours floating around about Vlastuin being in the same boat. So why not grab ‘The Cannon’! He has scored well, going below 90 only twice (a 76 and an 88). McKenzie’s rise seems to correlate with Gold Coast’s solid season and it may continue, with The Suns playing 6 current bottom 8 teams in their next 9 games. So consistent is his 2013 season that his projected scores for the rest of the year are between 92-107. Scores I would gladly take in my backline each week.
Mathew Stokes (GEE) - Forward
Price: $487,700 (b/e +82)
Selected In: 5.03%
Games: 12 Average: 99.67
3 Round Projection: 100pt average
Mathew Stokes hasn’t been without issues in the past, but he looks to have sorted them out and he is playing some great football. I believe he is another POD that has fallen victim to his SuperCoach past. Much like Douglas, he has always average below 90, but this year he is border lining an average of 100 per game. He only has one score below 80, which was a 78, in a game that he was the starting sub; had he have not been sub in this game he is average may well have been over 100. Aside from that game as sub, his lowest score is only 85 and he has had three games of 110+. His SuperCoach Gold projected scores for the next 9 rounds fall between 93 and 106, which makes him a viable forward option for an upgrade at a low cost.
