Wowee, there were some interesting scores in Round 14! Some guns went low (Selwood 58, Naitanui 73, Rockliff 57, Ablett 115, just to name a few) and there were some massive scores too (Prestia 151, Liberatore 163, Griffen 148 & Vickery 152). The most pleasing thing for me was that the byes were over and aside from having 9 games of footy to watch, I had almost 30 players to select for my SuperCoach team. You really should be close to finishing off your team and setting aside some trades for injuries, form drops and general boosts to your team. I am 1 trade of finalising my team, a team which has probably been my worst over the past 5 years; due to injuries and late withdrawals more than my poor selections. I should be able to make finals in 4/5 of my leagues and I will take it from there. So to help you finish off your team I have included some point of difference players. They include a Bulldogs double, some dear players, and a ruckman this week instead of a forward. Enjoy!
Ryan Griffen (WBD) - Midfielder
Price: $670,500 (b/e +117)
Selected In: 6.25%
Games: 11 Average: 127.55
3 Round Projection: 143pt average
I’m not really sure how Griffen hasn’t been included into more SuperCoach teams than he already has. I suppose that people go for their regular big guns, such as Ablett, Pendlebury, Swan, etc… The harsh truth to that is that Griffen is second only to Gary Ablett Jnr for Supercoach in 2013. Griffen started off with some high and low scores. He scored below 100 twice, an 89 and a 53 (he was injured during the 53), but once he scored that 53 against Adelaide he came out and scored a 171, 101 and then hasn’t gone below 129 since. He has averaged 140 in his last 5 games and his projected scores for the next 9 games are huge; between 137 and 157. There are lots of words that come to mind when describing Ryan Griffen, particularly when discussing his 2013 season. I won’t list them all, but they’re generally synonyms of gun and freak. A real roughie for the Brownlow this year, Griffen could add the icing on your cake to your team if you can afford him.
Robert Murphy (WBD) - Defender
Price: $504,500 (b/e +82)
Selected In: 1.26%
Games: 10 Average: 98.20
3 Round Projection: 109pt average
Robert Murphy is a stalwart of the Western Bulldogs and has had his best SuperCoach year to date in 2013. Between 2006-2012 Murphy has averaged 76.45 SuperCoach points, with high highest years coming in 2011 (89.81) and 2012 (84.67). He began this year slowly with scores of 68 and 67 in rounds 2 and 3. However, since then he has averaged 105 with a low of just 87 and a high of 133, showing that he can go big. If we look into the future, SuperCoach Gold tells us that he is projected to score a low of 104 and a high of 116 in his remaining games; an average of 107. To add the cherry to the Bob Murphy cake, he plays 6/9 remaining games at Etihad which is his favourite stadium in SuperCoach terms. If you’ve ever follow Bob on twitter or watched him on Fox Footy, he is a top bloke and very funny and hopefully if you have enough cash, you can bring his SuperCoach ability to your teams backline.
Matthew Kreuzer (CAR) - Ruck
Price: $470,800 (b/e +64)
Selected In: 8.15%
Games: 10 Average: 90.40
3 Round Projection: 103.66pt average
Kreuzer was one of my selections at the beginning of the year. I was under the opinion he was ready to go from his 92pt average in 2012 to a 100pt+ average in 2013. Although the statistics say he has averaged 90, I wasn’t entirely wrong. Let’s take out his two lowest scores of 39 and 42. My reasoning for this as those games are the one he was injured in (39) and his comeback game (42). Outside of those games Kreuzer has averaged 103 and has played some solid games, never going below 80 and scoring up to 122. The most promising thing about Kreuzer is that in his last 5 games he has averaged 105. He is projected to score over 100 in 8 of his remaining 9 games, with 91 the only sub 100 score. If you have a ruck who is underperforming, has recently become injured, struggling to afford Goldstein/Cox/Naitanui/Minson/Roughead, or you are still yet to upgrade a rookie ruck (e.g. Blicavs), then Kruzer may be the man for you.
