Matthew Boyd (WBD)
WHY?
Because he is a gun.... He turns 31 soon, but 2014 is statistically as good as any of his seasons past. He is averaging 28.4 disposals & 3.6 marks a game this season, but the thing that stood out most to me is that he is averaging 5.4 tackles per game. The only other season he's averaged over 5 tackles was 2011 when he came equal 3rd in the Brownlow medal (5.1 tackles per game along with 31.9 disposals). Also consider this: Boyd is ranked inside the top 20 in the AFL per game for disposals, effective disposals, clearances and contested possessions. Those kind of stats are SuperCoach gold, which sees Boyd with the 14th highest SuperCoach average per game. His average of 112 is higher than Treloar, Barlow, Sidebottom, Prestia and Priddis, who are all valid POD selections in their own right. At one stage this year his average was up to 122 (Round 6) and his price hit an expensive $623,200 (Round 7). That will help you understand how much value, at 536k, and how much of an underrated SuperCoach gun Matthew Boyd is!
HIS SCORING...
Boyd's scoring is consistent and has the ability to go very big. His 2014 scores are: 110, 72 (low), 129, 153 (high), 125, 143, 109, 97, 93, 82 & 119. Two scores below 90 and only four below 100 speaks highly of Boyd. His lowest score was just an off game, only having 18 disposals, and the 82 came after a 3 week lay off with injury, which may have affected him. Last week he was back to his match winning best with 32 disposals, 8 tackles & 1 goal.... Being the leader that he is, when he isn't having an impact by getting the pill he will lay tackles. The two games this year that he has had below 20 disposals were against Melbourne (18 disposals & 10 tackles) and against North Melbourne (18 disposals & 8 tackles).
NEXT 5....
His best score versus every side he faces for the remainder of the year is higher than 124. His next five are Geelong (average 101, high score 134), Gold Coast (108/137), Essendon (91/133), Hawthorn (110/145) and St.Kilda (108/164). The only worrying one there in terms of an overall career average is Essendon, but his last three matches against them have been tons (109, 133 & 105).

IF....
....you're short on cash and want a cheap POD then Drew Petrie (FWD - $394,500) is worth looking at. After a poor start to the year with only a couple of good games, he has really picked up. His only two tons (114 & 101) this year have come in the last four rounds and for the first time all year he has put together two decent SuperCoach games in a row (101 & 88). He should start rising in value from here, but still tread carefully.
