On the surface it looked like SC teams had escaped without too many injury concerns following round 10, however looking a little deeper revealed quite a few players who will be missing this week and for a few weeks to come. While they are not household names, they are the bit-part players that often hold up a last defender or last midfield spot – and in the end, a trade is a trade regardless of the calibre of the player involved.
Taylor WALKER (Adelaide. Value - $232,500. Out for a month with knee injury)
Whilst many thought 2011 might be a breakout year for this talented Crow forward, with an average of just 51 he has been a fair disappointment for the 5% of SC teams he has been a part of. Embroiled in a drinking scandal two weeks ago, now he has injured his knee and is gone for at least a month.
Possibilities : James POLKINGHORNE(Bris) - $224,000 Av 57
Shaun McKERNAN (Adel) - $213,500 Av 56
Alex JOHNSON (Syd) - $212,500 Av 58
Tom LYNCH (GC) - $197,400 Av 82 My Choice – this kid can play
Tendai MZUNGU (Freo) - $110,200 Av 45 Value Pick – Get on board!
Jeremy LAIDLER (Carlton. Value – 320,500. Two or three week with a knee injury)
Another to sneak under the radar, LAIDLER has performed pretty well as part of a solid back six for the Blues in 2011. Coming across from Geelong, the no-frills defender has averaged 76 pts per game for the 3% of SC teams he is in – not a bad output, raising his price by $41,200. He could be one you hold on to depending on trade and bench options, but it might be time to move him on I think.
Possibilities : Ashley SMITH (WCE) - $318,000 Av 74
Jackson TRENGOVE (Port) - $311,700 Av 70
Michael JAMISON (Carl) - $311,100 Av 77
Martin MATTNER (Syd) - $305,400 Av 79 My Choice - Solid
Luke DELANEY (Nth) - $103,600 Av 66 Value Pick – Free up some cash
Chance BATEMAN (Hawthorn – Value $365,600. 4 to 6 weeks with an ankle injury)
This hard-running midfielder has performed admirably so far in 2011, averaging 74 pts per game in the 3% of teams who selected him. Part of a strong Hawk midfield, BATEMAN has taken on his share of the load and the numbers reflect that – his pricing rising a nice $80,500 so far. Nevertheless, the ankle injury means he must go.
Possibilities : David ARMITAGE (StK) - $362,800 Av 86 My Choice – Coming of age
Matt DeBOER (Freo) - $362,500 Av 80
Hamish HARTLETT (Port) - $360,300 Av 85
Callan WARD (Bull) - $356,600 Av 81
Shaun BURGOYNE (Haw) - $332,400 Av 80
Tendai MZUNGU (Freo) - $110,200 Av 45 Value Pick – will be a ripper
Daniel PRATT (Nth Melbourne. Value - $368,900. A month with an injured thumb)
PRATT has been very solid this year, averaging a very tidy 85 pts per game and rising in value a steady $25,300. Despite only being in 2.5% of teams, he has been a consistent performer, and one that the Kangaroos will sorely miss over the next month.
Possibilities : Michael DOUGHTY (Adel) - $367,400 Av 83 My Choice – very consistent
Jared RIVERS (Melb) - $366,400 Av 84
Matthew SCARLETT (Gee) - $365,200 Av 86
Stefan MARTIN (Melb) - $363,400 Av 85
Daniel MERRETT (Bris) - $361,700 Av 87 Value Pick – Go the Ranga!
Brandon MATERA (Gold Coast. Value - $262,700. 2 or 3 weeks out with a groin)
In a whopping 34% of SC teams in 2011, the Suns newcomer has been a popular choice, and for good reason. Averaging a very nice 62 pts per game as a rookie, MATERA has been lurking around that last forward position in a lot of SC teams for most of the year. His price has risen nicely, and now, with this relatively minor groin injury along with whispers that he needs a bit of a rest, the time has come to move him on, take the cash and run.
Possibilities : Tom LYNCH (GC) - $197,400 Av 82 My Choice – if you already have MZUNGU!
Arryn SIPOSS (StK) - $160,700 Av 49
Tendai MZUNGU (Freo) - $110,200 Av 45 Value Pick – Gotta have him
Well that’s it for another round of Trade Winds – hopefully the guys listed above weren’t in your side and you can concentrate solely on double trades to increase the scoring potential of your team. Remember, MZUNGU will rise in value after this week, so strike while you can. Around 14 trades seems to be the amount most people have at the moment, having selected the rookies who will continue playing whilst using the money to upgrade to their choice of premiums out on the park.
Hopefully the big scores will start rolling in.
