Despite their being only six matches last weekend the carnage didn’t let up, with a number of big names and popular SC players getting injured again. Just how much do we believe the clubs though – last week Heath SCOTLAND was reported as going to miss at least 3 weeks with a calf strain, yet he has been named to play the Eagles this week!?! Nevertheless, the bye rounds have already messed up our SC teams enough, so injured players have to be dealt with – particularly those that are out for a while. Hopefully you still have enough trades to get some semblance of a decent side on the park this week.

Aaron SANDILANDS (Fremantle. Value - $481,200. Av. 102. Out for 10 wks with Turf Toe)
Freo giant SANDILANDS hasn’t had the greatest run of late, and has been struck down with the dreaded ‘turf toe’ again. At the moment the diagnosis is 10 weeks out of the game, but this injury could quite conceivably end his year. For the 12% of SC teams who took the punt on him this year, there is no option but to move him on. With an average of 102 pts per game, they are some big shoes to fill – but don’t despair, there are some decent options out there.
Possibilities : Will MINSON (Bull) - $480,000. Av 95
*Robbie WARNOCK (Carl) - $467,800 Av 97
Sam JACOBS (Adel) - $458,200 Av 93 My Choice – Good Run Home
*Jonathan GRIFFEN (Freo) - $454,600 Av 91
*David HALE (Haw) - $448,100 Av 91
David ZAHARAKIS (Essendon. Value - $516,300. Av. 99. Calf Injury – Out for a month)
Given the SCOTLAND fiasco it seems difficult to believe the injury report here, but everything leads to ZAHARAKIS missing the next month of footy at least with a calf injury sustained at training. Yet another soft tissue injury to a Bomber, those 13.5% of SC teams who have him are faced with the prospect of either keeping him on the sidelines for at least 4 weeks, or trading him out. My advice is simple – he has to go. With an average of 99 and a price tag to boot, at least the options to replace him are quality players who can take up the slack.
Possibilities : As A Midfielder
Daniel CROSS (Bull) - $505,500 Av 102
*Callan WARD (GC) - $505,300 Av 107
*Chris JUDD (Carl) - $505,200 Av 108 My Choice – Absolute Superstar
Jack REDDEN (Bris) - $501,300 Av 96
As A Forward
*Ryan O’KEEFE (Syd) - $449,800 Av 89
*Michael JOHNSON (Freo) - $495,000 Av 98
*Mitch ROBINSON (Carl) - $489,900 Av 94 My Choice – On The Improve
*Jarryd ROUGHEAD (Haw) - $456,600 Av 99
Stephen CONIGLIO (Greater West Sydney. Value - $352,200. Av 72. Thumb Injury – Out a month)
Selected at No.2 in the National Draft, CONIGLIO was selected plenty of Sc teams and did not let them down, averaging a tidy 72 pts per game up to this stage in the season. Still in 14% of teams, CONIGS has now injured his thumb and will be out for at least a month, signaling the time to cash him in. Rising $160,000 for the year, CONIGLIO has been a solid contributor for the expansion team, giving plenty of indication he will be a very good player for many years – but his input for 2012 in fantasy terms in all but complete. Get him out by either trading him down and making cash, or trading him up to a superstar.
Possibilities : *Tendai MZUNGU (Freo) - $348,700 Av 84
*Luke SHIELS (Haw) - $345,700 Av 71
*Jack TRENGOVE (Melb) - $345,700 Av 75
*Hayden CROZIER (Freo) - $106,600 Av 42
Elliott YEO (Bris) - $106,600 Av 47
Sam GIBSON (Nth) - $94,700 Av 0 My Choice – Take a Punt and make $$$$$
Alan DIDAK (Collingwood. Value - $332,200. Av 58. Groin Injury – Out for a while)
Injury ravaged throughout 2011 and 2012, DIDAK has not been able to reach the heights he had a few years back in both the AFL and SC worlds. A cheap forward option this year, he has only managed to average 58 pts per game for the 6% of owners who took a punt on him, and has now been ruled out for an indefinite period after pinging his groin in the first few minutes of last weekend’s match. My initial advice would be to trade him down to cash options including CROZIER (Freo), YEO (Bris), GIBSON (Nth) or SKINNER (Bulldogs) – however, if you are running low on trades and straight swaps need to be made, here are the picks of the crop.
Possibilities : As A Midfielder
*Sam LONERGAN (Ess) - $328,200 Av 59
*Colin SYLVIA (Melb) - $323,700 Av 50
*Josh CADDY (GC) - $321,500 Av 63
Ryan BASTINAC (Nth) - $317,900 Av 73 My Choice – Can Play
As A Forward
*Steven MOTLOP (Gee) - $330,400 Av 72
*James PODSIADLY (Gee) - $326,000 Av 75
*Michael HURLEY (Ess) - $329,100 Av 66 My Choice – Should Improve
*Jeff GARLETT (Carl) - $318,800 Av 70
That’s it on the injury front for another week. With the trouble surrounding the byes as well as players getting injured, it seems like we all just need to fight our way through the next couple of weeks and then hopefully get a settled team to run at the second half of the season and through to the Finals. Remember, a win now worth just as many points as a win in round 18 – if you need to get back on the score board with a victory, don’t be afraid to trade.
