Thank God for that – the bye weeks are now behind us and it’s time to get back to a full side and some decent scores again. However, there was a little bit of carnage to peripheral players that might be on the fringes of your SC side – if you have any of these blokes and you have enough trades left, it’s time to move them on.
Watch for a new segment at the end of this article too – given that we are halfway through the season and it’s now about finalizing your side as we head toward finals, there will be a weekly Trade of the Week nomination. This will be the trade that I believe at this point in time could most benefit your side going forward. Check it out!
Mitch CLARK (Melbourne. Value - $436,900. Av 84. Foot injury – out for the Season)

Mitch CLARK (Melbourne. Value - $436,900. Av 84. Foot injury – out for the Season)
One of the few shining lights for season 2012 for the Demons, boom recruit Mitch CLARK has been a revelation at his new club, proving a lot of doubters wrong and providing great leadership during some very tough times at Melbourne. Unfortunately it all came apart last weekend when, after kicking four early goals, CLARK injured his foot and got a head knock all within the space of 20 seconds. The foot injury turned out to be the worst, and has ultimately ended his season. Thanks for the efforts big guy, but for the 2% of SC teams that have you, it’s time to go
Possibilities : Leigh ADAMS (Nth) - $434,400 Av 86
Brent HARVEY (Nth) - $430,800 Av 88
Danny STANLEY (GC) - $428,700 Av 91
Andrew WALKER (Carl) - $418,400 Av 85
Allen CHRISTENSEN (Geel) - $406,100 Av 80 My Choice – Will burn from here on
Angus MONFRIES (Essendon. Value - $333,800. Av. 72. Hamstring – Out for 3 weeks)
Whilst you could possibly put up with a hamstring injury to a superstar and leave him on your bench to recover, the 2.5% of coaches who have selected MONFRIES need to bite the bullet and get rid of him (unless they are in dire trade trouble!). A steady contributor with an average of 72 pts per game for the year, MONFRIES has provided some value but in this important section of the SC season, his injury has come at just the wrong time. Move him out.
Possibilities : As A Midfielder
Adam TRELOAR (GWS) - $330,500 Av 75
Rhys PALMER (GWS) - $321,700 Av 69
Kyle HORSLEY (GC) - $321,600 Av 80 My Choice – Can play
Sam GIBSON (Nth) - $94,700 Av 32 $$$$$$$$$
As A Forward
Josh HILL (WCE) - $332,100 Av 74 My Choice - Much Improved
Adam TRELOAR (GWS) - $330,500 Av 75
Ahmad SAAD (St.K) - $306,000 Av 70
James PODSIADLY (Geel) - $303,200 Av 73
Matt MAGUIRE (Brisbane. Value - $372,000. Av 77. Elbow injury – Out for up to 6 weeks)
There hasn’t been too many more injury-cursed players in their AFL career than former Saint now Lion Matt MAGUIRE. Finally having an okay run after the horrific broken leg from a few years back, MAGUIRE has now damaged his elbow and will be missing in action for up to 6 weeks – far too long in SC terms. Another solid contributor with an average of 77 pts per game, “Goose” will be having a rest from the Lions – and, if you are one of the 2% of SC teams who have him, he needs to have a rest from your team too.
Possibilities : Sam GILBERT (St.K) - $371,400 Av 71
Daniel MERRETT (Bris) - $365,300 Av 75
Courtenay DEMPSEY (Ess) - $359,900 Av 75
Bachar HOULI (Rich) - $351,000 Av 80 My Choice – Good skills, Goes Alright
Sam SHAW (Adel) - $212,300 Av 65 $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Daniel GIANSIRACUSA (Bulldogs. Value - $367,400 Av.73 Foot Stress Fracture – Out for 5 weeks)
Somewhat surprisingly, GIA is selected in only 1% of current SC teams, despite being a relatively successful fantasy player in recent seasons. He is the elder statesman in a Bulldog forwardline that is very much in a development phase, and has struggled a little in 2012 with a SC average of 73 pts per game for the year. Now he has the dreaded foot stress fracture which, when coupled with his age, means that he simply has to be moved on.
Possibilities : Clancy PEARCE (Freo) - $363,200 Av 81 My Choice – Hard at It, Good Value
Jack DARLING (WCE) - $357,900 Av 77
Leroy JETTA (Ess) - $347,800 Av 75
Michael HURLEY (Ess) - $339,600 Av 71
Colin SYLVIA (Melb) - $336,100 Av 57
Now, onto the new segment which will be a weekly addition from here on into the SC Finals.
TRADE OF THE WEEK
Whilst many are talking Carrazzo, Suckling or Birchall into the backline (particularly now with Marty CLARKE dropped), my trade of the week comes from another section of the ground – the ruck department. If you have Jarrad REDDEN or Oren STEPHENSON warming the pine in your rucks (especially in the second bench spot) then, provided you have enough trades up your sleeve, get rid of either one of them for young Bulldog Tom CAMPBELL ($94,700. Av 89). Whilst his value points-wise will be lessened with Will MINSONs return, CAMPBELL may play as a permanent forward – and in the end, it doesn’t really matter. The beauty of him is that he frees up between $120,000 - $150,000 which can be used more efficiently elsewhere. The bonus is, he might actually play a few games and provide useful back-up also. Get on board!
