Just when we all thought reports and Match Review Panel decisions were a thing of the past, along comes round 14 and smacks us in the face like a wet fish. Not only were several high profile players suspended this week (leaving some massive holes in SC teams), but there were also a number of injuries to some peripheral players that could make the situation even worse. With the number of trades diminishing also, its decision time – how badly do you need to win?
Brendan GODDARD (St.Kilda. Value - $475,500. Av 101. Suspended two weeks)
Brendan GODDARD (St.Kilda. Value - $475,500. Av 101. Suspended two weeks)
hat a disappointing season this has been GODDARD. One of the premier players in the competition a couple of years ago, he has gone backwards this year at a fairly significant rate. Whether it’s the GWS talk or just a form slump, GODDARD seems disinterested and lazy – and the undisciplined act that has seen him suspended for two weeks was very poor. So, do you trade him? In a massive 60% of teams most coaches would say no, but could this trade be the difference for your team going forward? Are you that brave?
Possibilities : As A Defender
Michael JOHNSON (Freo) - $472,900 Av 96
Grant BIRCHALL (Haw) - $472,500 Av 96 My Choice – Hawks are Building
Shannon HURN (WCE) - $471,700 Av 97
As A Midfielder
Leigh MONTAGNA (St.K) - $473,400 Av 95
Mitch ROBINSON (Carl) - $470,300 Av 96
Chris JUDD (Carl) - $466,500 Av 104 My Choice – Superstar Cheap as Chips
Dylan SHIEL (GWS. Value - $387,600. Av 75. Foot injury – out a month)
With most of our GWS rookies upgraded by now, it’s a surprise to see that SHIEL is still in 11% of SC teams this late in the season. Having said that, his average of 75 pts per game has been solid, his value climbing by a very nice $274,000. With a foot injury that will sideline him for a month now on the cards however, it’s time to move him on. A sideways trade or a downgrade one depends on how many you have left, but the options are listed below. Either way, he has to go.
Possibilities : Jack ZIEBELL (Nth) - $387,100 Av 84
Joel COREY (Geel) - $382,600 Av 80
John McCARTHY (Port) - $380,800 Av 80
David MUNDY (Freo) - $375,900 Av 77 My Choice – Can Regain his Form
Taylor WALKER (Adelaide. Value - $479,600. Av 97. Suspended three weeks)
Another to fall foul of the judicial system, the much-improved WALKER now faces three weeks on the sidelines for a sling tackle that didn’t even injure his opponent. Go figure. WALKER has been responsible for a large chunk of Adelaide’s resurgent form in 2012, averaging 97 pts per game for the 8% of SC teams he is a part of. In a tandem act with Kurt TIPPETT, they have been a difficult duo to stop. For the next three weeks WALKER will be watching from the boundary – no bloody good there. Move him on if you have the trades.
Possibilities : Michael JOHNSON (Freo) - $472,900 Av 96
Mitch ROBINSON (Carl) - $470,300 Av 96
Kurt TIPPETT (Adel) - $455,100 Av 98 My Choice – Sole Focus Now
Danny STANLEY (GC) - $446,700 Av 95
Robert MURPHY (Bulldogs. Value - $434,600. Av 84. Hamstring injury – 2 to 3 weeks?)
The Bulldogs have been very quiet about the leg injury to experienced running defender Robert MURPHY, however there is no doubt he at least tweaked his hammy last weekend. At his age and with his history of leg injuries, expect them to take a cautious approach with his recovery – even a slight strain could see him miss 2 or 3 weeks. Averaging 84 pts per game and selected in 5% of SC teams, MURPHY has done his job again this season, but can you afford to leave him on the pine for an indefinite period?
Possibilities : Dustin FLETCHER (Ess) - $424,300 Av 88
Matt SUCKLING (Haw) - $423,400 Av 89 My Choice – Get On Board
Troy CHAPLIN (Port) - $419,500 Av 90
Sam FISHER (St.K) - $412,600 Av 85
Rhys STANLEY (St. Kilda. Value - $285,600. Av 66. Hamstring injury – again. Out for 6 weeks)
Returning from a hamstring strain only to do it again, lanky Saints speedster STANLEY is not out for the best part of the season. 2012 has been a mixed bag for the young forward, showing real glimpses of his potential but being hampered by continual soft-tissue leg injuries. Still in a surprising 4.6% of SC teams, STANLEY has been serviceable but has achieved all he will for this year. Get him out.
Possibilities : Jamie ELLIOTT (Coll) - $267,800 Av 69
Jordan MURDOCH (Geel) - $106,600 Av 88 My Choice - $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Brent GUERRA (Hawthorn. Value - $365,100. Av 82. Suspended three weeks)
Yet another to fall foul of the judiciary, GUERRA has been suspended again – this time for a head high “tackle”. Renowned for his big hits, the dependable Hawk defender will now miss 3 weeks – just that awkward amount of time if you are one of the 2% of SC teams who have him. With an average of 82 GUERRA has been pretty solid again this year, but three weeks at this time of the season is too long for mine – if you’ve got the trades, it’s time to move him on too.
Possibilities - Luke McPHARLIN (Freo) - $364,600 Av 77
Heath GRUNDY (Syd) - $362,300 Av 72
Bachar HOULI (Rich) - $341,500 Av 77
Michael HIBBERD (Ess) - $337,900 Av 78 My Choice – Like His Style
TRADE OF THE WEEK
It’s time to free up some cash again, and it’s not too late to jump on the Sam GIBSON express! The North Melbourne midfielder scored a ripper 91 pts last weekend against the Saints, and this week has a break even of -16. A solid bench option for the remainder of the season, you should be looking to get GIBSON in and make some much needed cash for your last few trades of the year. He is still great value at $137,900 and don’t worry – he’ll play.
