Semi-final week this week, and with trades either all gone or very near the end, it makes for some interesting selection dilemmas. Will Buddy return? Will Nick Roo play? With a few big name players injured, suddenly the composition of a lot of SC teams might be a little different to what their owners expected at this time of the season. It’s make -or-break this weekend – you have to win, no point holding on to trades for next week when there might not be a next week. If the following guys are in your side, get them out if you can.
Cyril RIOLI (Hawthorn. Value - $556,000. Av 102. Shoulder injury – out for 2 to 3 weeks)
Cyril RIOLI (Hawthorn. Value - $556,000. Av 102. Shoulder injury – out for 2 to 3 weeks)
With a handy average of 102 pts per game, RIOLI has been a ripper this year, adding a bit of consistency to his one or two super-scoring games. Selected in 14% of teams, he has been a real solid contributor most weeks and will be sorely missed after injuring his shoulder last weekend – especially against the Suns this week, where he would’ve expected to have a big game. Two to three weeks signals the end of the SC season, so if you have Cyril he simply has to go.
Possibilities : Brent HARVEY (Nth) - $521,600 Av 95
Jarryd ROUGHEAD (Haw) - $516,800 Av 105
Drew PETRIE (Nth) - $511,700 Av 98
Steele SIDEBOTTOM (Coll) - $496,400 Av 108 My Choice – Ball Magnet
Nick RIEWOLDT (St.Kilda. Value - $437,100 Av 96. Knee Injury – May Possibly Play?)
As a St Kilda supporter may heart is willing Big Nick to get up for this week’s game, but my head is telling my otherwise. On fire early in last weekend’s match against Melbourne, ROO injured his knee in a fairly innocuous incident attempting to mark. Whilst his condition varies from “fair chance to play this week” to “possibly gone for the season”, my gut feeling is that RIEWOLDT won’t get up this week in the Saints crunch match against the Cats. With a 96 pt average for 2012, ROO has shown this year that he is not a spent force – selected in 17% of SC teams, I think it’s crunch time and he needs to be traded.
Possibilities : Adam TRELOAR (GWS) - $434,800 Av 81
Danny STANLEY (GC) - $428,200 Av 91
Jarryd BLAIR (Coll) - $426,800 Av 91
Adam GOODES (Syd) - $415,500 Av 89 My Choice – Capable of Huge Scores
Reece CONCA (Richmond. Value - $348,300 Av 70. Broken Toe – Out for Season)
Seen as a bit of a bargain at the start of 2012, CONCA has only been okay this year, with an average of 70 pts per game for the 3% of SC teams who selected him. Steady but unspectacular, it was revealed during the week that he had broken his toe, ending his 2012 campaign immediately. With a price rise of $49,500 for the season, for those that have him on the field need to trade him this week – and take a punt on a replacement.
Possibilities : Sam SHAW (Adel) - $347,700 Av 73
Colin GARLAND (Melb) - $341,700 Av 75
Scott THOMPSON (Nth) - $340,100 Av 81 My Choice – Can Score Okay At Times
Ted RICHARDS (Syd) - $337,500 Av 79
Troy CHAPLIN (Port Adelaide. Value - $388,200 Av 86. Knee Injury – Out For Season)
One of the few shining lights for the Power in 2012, CHAPLIN has been a steady SC contributor with an average of 86 pts per game this year. Despite pretty good numbers he is a forgotten man in the fantasy footy world, selected in only 1.5% of teams. However, if you did have him as a unique backman, the news that he has injured his knee and is out for the remainder of the season could not have come at a worse time. If you have any trades left, you need to make the call – move him on.
Possibilities : Robert MURPHY (Bull) - $385,900 Av 84
Nathan GRIMA (Nth) - $385,800 Av 87 My Choice – Team In The Finals, Can Play
Pearce HANLEY (Bris) - $385,000 Av 88
Jason GRAM (St.K) - $379,400 Av 81
TRADE OF THE WEEK
After being let down by Buddy last weekend (who remains a Trade of the Week for this week mind you!), the pressure is on to come up with a unique trade target this week –someone who could make all the difference to your side this weekend and going forward. Having scoured the stats, TAYLOR WALKER (ADEL) is the nomination for this weekend. Only in 6.5% of SC teams, WALKER is a unique option for your side, and his recent form is impressive – he has scored over 100 in 6 of his last 8 matches, with a current average of 97 pts per game. Having risen $112,000 in price to $451,400, WALKER doesn’t come cheap, but has the potential to score big over the last 3 games against Brisbane, Melbourne and the Gold Coast. With fellow forward Kurt TIPPETT due to return, WALKER also might end up avoiding the best defender each week, which is an added bonus. Could Tex be the right fit for your team?
