Nice to see the back of round 2 without a list of injured players a mile long like there was last week. Unfortunately there were a couple of long term injuries to key players, and we will hopefully help you to find adequately replacements if you have been decimated again. Again, with the Kangas having the bye this week, their players will be bypassed as trade options.
Lenny HAYES (St Kilda. Value - $503,500. Out for the season with an ACL injury)
As a Saints supporter, this left me guttered. Lenny is the spiritual leader of the club and started the season with a belter last week, only to be cut down in a sickening knee injury that has put paid to 2011 for the midfield general. It will be his second knee reco (the other in 2006), and many are questioning if he will come back at all – something the man himself scoffs at. Needless to say, the Saints will be a lot worse off without him – and so will the 6.5% of SC teams who had him.
Possibilities : Jimmy BARTEL (Geel) - $497,000. Av 117. My Choice – Mr Consistency.
Jude BOLTON (Syd) - $492,600 Av 153
Shaun BURGOYNE (Haw) - $484,300 Av 99
James KELLY (Geel) - $482,200 Av 102
Sam MITCHELL (Haw) - $481,200 Av 109
Michael RISCHITELLI (GC) - $462,500 Av 114
David MUNDY (Freo) - $455,700 Av 125
Ryan O’KEEFE (Syd) - $440,200 Av 144 Value Pick – Great start
Andrew EMBLEY (WCE) - $421,900 Av 149
Beau WATERS (West Coast. Value - $399,700. Injured elbow tendon. Out for 10 – 12 weeks)
Waters was a gun in SC terms in 2010, and had started off 2011 in solid form like most of his team mates, averaging 85 pts for the first two matches. Unfortunately his persistent elbow problems have flared up again, and the resultant surgery will see him miss a large chunk of the year – a huge blow to the Eagles promising beginning to the season. Owned by 4.5% of teams, he simply has to go.
Possibilities : Martin MATTNER (Syd) - $380,900 Av 94
Josh GIBSON (Haw) - $374,700 Av 90
Brett THORNTON (Carl) - $356,000 Av 94
Scott McMAHON (Nth) - $346,300 Av 96
Robert MURPHY (Bull) - $346,000 Av 102
My Choice-Playing GC this week too!
Rick LADSON (Haw) - $332,100 Av 100
Nick SUBAN (Freo) - $295,800 Av 95
Value Pick - Potential Breakout Year
Domenic CASSISI (Port Adelaide. Value - $477,700. 4 to 6 weeks with a knee injury)
The inspirational Port captain only appears in just under 1% of SC teams, which is a little surprising given his usual reliability and consistency – and his average of 98 in 2010. Nevertheless, CASSISI has tweaked his knee last weekend against the Eagles and will be missing in action from a disappointing Port side for at least the next month.
Possibilities : Travis BOAK (Port) - $471,300 Av 89
Michael RISCHITELLI (GC) - $462,500 Av 114.
Ryan GRIFFEN (Bull) - $456,200 Av 116
David MUNDY (Freo) - $455,700 Av 125
Brett STANTON (Ess) - $449,600 Av 99
Ryan O’KEEFE (Syd) - $440,200 Av 124
My Choice - back to his old self. Gun.
Colin SYLVIA (Melb) - $428,200 Av 100
Andrew EMBLEY (WCE) - $421,900 Av 149
Value Pick – Can he keep it up though?
There doesn’t appear to be any other major injuries coming out of round 2, and the only report of concern is the week to Cyril RIOLI, but in the form he is in you wouldn’t dream of trading him out. Luke McGUANE understandably got two weeks with an early plea, but anyone who had him wouldn’t be on this site! Looking briefly ahead, round three represents the moment player prices alter, so here is a short list of those guys to consider snapping up…and those you might think about getting rid of before their price drops.
INS : (Rookies and others below their value) Tapscott, Darling, Liberatore, Curnow, Duigan, Heppell, Lower, Shuey, Pederson, McKernan, Suckling, Davis, Suban, Ladson, Murphy, Hardingham, Hill, and Dawes.
OUTS : (Big name players and others who have been disappointing so far) Giansiracusa, Bruce, Gilbert, Cloke, Macaffer, Hall, Everitt, Vezpremi, Hawkins, Jolly, Cross, Cornes, Harvey, Milburn, Fletcher, Duffield, Chaplin, Conners and Lovett-Murray.
Of course, early trades can come back to haunt you, and sometimes a little patience can pay off in the long run – remember, it is only round two, there is a long, long, long way to go.
