Finding quality defenders can be hard to come by in SuperCoach, the likes of Goddard, Shaw, Gibbs etc. will all be popular picks, but as far as the ‘next generation’ premium defenders go, Dyson Heppell is an exciting prospect.
Heppell was selected with the eighth pick in the 2010 draft and oozes class, he has silky skills and is a great reader of the play, one of the most impressive aspects of his debut year was his composure at AFL level for such a young man. The Bombers will no doubt improve in 2013, after starting the past two seasons in blazing form then being struck by injuries, I think this year we will see a much more consistent year from Essendon, which in turn will see Heppell’s SC scoring soar.
Coming into his third season, he stands at a deceivingly tall 189cm and 81kg, he is ready to take the next step in my opinion and become a quality rebounding defender capable of playing in the middle. He will be starting in my squad for 2013, his def/mid DPP status makes him hard to resist. A big improver in 2013, I expect to see his average reach the three figure mark.
