Varcoe will be keen to put season 2012 behind him after battling injuries throughout the year and playing less than a quarter before again succumbing to injury. The one positive out of this is his price tag for SuperCoach 2013; he is one of the best buys for next season at 268K.
The Geelong speedster is right on track for round one and is being groomed to play across the half-back line which makes him an even more enticing prospect. Geelong love the ball in his hands, his speed and beautiful ball use will make him a great option to play the modern day rebounding defender, which will see him gather plenty of touches linking up out of defence for the Cats.
Prior to Varcoe’s injury riddled 2012, he averaged 71.8 and 82.6 in 2011 and 2010 respectively, quite handy for a young small forward. There has never been a question on his talent, taken with pick 15 in the 2005 draft and given the legendary number five guernsey, the question has always been his belief to play at AFL level.
As for our Supercoach sides, he’s a lock for mine, huge potential, a DPP at a bargain price in a high scoring position. Expect to see the Geelong side look for him out of defence, he is a classy mover and user and at 24 and 101 games of experience, given a full pre season Varcoe will have a long awaited break out year.
