have used their captain already and likely to great effect. Gary Ablett would’ve
pleased many with another “leading from the front” performance that returned him
140 SC points. Dayne Beams (136), Scott Pendlebury (127), Aaron Sandilands (127)
and Trent Cotchin (118) all fired and earnt coaches some nice double points.
For those who are yet to utilize their captain or vice captain, here
are some options for this weekend. You certainly haven’t missed the boat, with
many popular selections staking a strong claim for your skipper.
Here are my captaincy selections for this weekend.
Jobe Watson
Watson boasts an extraordinary record against North Melbourne, making
him a brilliant captaincy selection. Since 2007 he has played the Roos on eight
occasions, returning an average of 120 SC points, with his lowest score being
91! The Bomber skipper will be a popular pick as will whacking the ‘C’ on
him.
Todd Goldstein
With the absence of Tom Bellchambers, the pressure mounts on Patty
Ryder. Todd Goldstein scored 124 SC points late last year when the two sides met
and he will once again be prominent. With no Currie (again), Goldstein will
shoulder the work load himself, which he thrives on.
Tom Liberatore
This kid is a contested ball monster and is ready to slot into the
seriously elite category. “Libba” ticks all the boxes when it comes to scoring
big points, a clearance king, fierce tackler and of course his well known hard
edge. One to consider.
Sam Mitchell
Since 2009, Mitchell’s numbers have been huge against the Lions,
gathering at least 25 touches in all five matches and topping 30 on three
occasions. From a SuperCoach perspective, he has averaged 129 points. The Hawks
are in scintillating form at such an early stage of the year, he should win
plenty of the ball on Saturday night and could be a smokey
option.
Nick Riewoldt
Both clubs will be eager to post a win on Saturday night, Riewoldt will
be the only dominant forward out there and will be looking to set the tone for
his young Saints. Saint Nick is a bit of a left field selection, but I think he
could be in for a big night against the rejuvenated Dees.
