Taking a look at last week’s top scorers, Jack Riewoldt bounced back from a week in the spotlight to kick an enormous 11 goals against the Giants. Jack was back to his best and in turn scored 189 SC points. Jimmy Bartel (157) was also back to some of his best football in his original midfield role; Scott Pendlebury (153) delivered a sensational second half to lift the Pies while Matt Thomas (147), Kade Simpson (144) and Brandon Ellis (144) all had great weekends.
Here are my captaincy selections for round 11!
Joel Selwood
Selwood is an ideal vice captain option in tonight’s clash at Sydney. He uncharacteristically spent a lot of time forward last week against North Melbourne, I doubt that will be a regular fixture – expect him to spend plenty of time in the middle tonight. Last time they played at the SCG, Selwood was best on ground with 163 SC points in round 4, 2013.
Lance Franklin
Historically, Buddy has struggled against the Cats, having been blanketed by Tom Lonergan. However, Lonergan will be missing from the side tonight and with Franklin in hot form over the past two matches (96 & 126) he could wreak havoc on what will be an undermanned Geelong defensive unit.
Jobe Watson
Watson has produced some mammoth scores in 2014 along with the some low-end 100’s. He is a big game player and Saturday nights “Dream Time at the G” clash with the Tigers is always a big stage. In last year’s corresponding match, Watson produced 28 touches, three goals and 166 SC points, he is one to consider.
Dayne Beams
Beams is yet to drop under the 100 mark and is in scintillating form. He just continues to find plenty of the ball as well as kick multiple goals. Beams is always capable of huge scores which makes him one to consider each week, a unique VC option.
Ablett vs Pendlebury
Ablett
Past 5 vs Adelaide – 115, 122, 139, 145, 198
Ablett burnt many a coach last week with his 75 points, but I think he can be forgiven following one of the best starts to an AFL season in recent times. He is always capable of anything and has had some huge matches against the Crows, expect him to bounce back like the champion he is.
Pendlebury
Past 5 vs St Kilda – 161, 126, 102, 149, 87
Pendlebury was sublime last week; 20 second half possessions saw him score 153 points. The Saints are struggling and the whole Collingwood midfield could be in for some big numbers, Pendlebury will lead the way Friday night.
Who will you be making skipper this week?
