our side Jobe Watson goes down, or Patty Dangerfield, Lance Franklin is again
missing in action and Steve Johnson needs to curb his aggression solely to the
football these days. Thankfully we have 30 trades this year!
As for the top scorers of round 16, Nick Malceski and Jarrad
McVeigh did as they pleased across the half-back line in the Swans drubbing of
GWS, scoring 156 and 143 respectively. Scott Pendlebury (153) simply dominated
once again, Tom Rockliff (147) relished in the midfield, Steve J (143) as
expected bullied his Melbourne lesser lights. Travis Boak (138) returned his
highest score for 2013, in what has been a career best season for the Geelong
boy.
Round 17 captaincy choices are as follows.
Barring a great shut down job from Ryan Crowley, Selwood has
averaged 139 from his past four matches! He is back in a big way. With the Crows
losing Dangerfield from an already struggling midfield, this looms as a great
opportunity for Selwood to pump out yet another huge score.
Scott Pendlebury
It’s a scary thought that Pendlebury had a personal best 42
disposals last week – what more can this man do? He has failed to score 100 just
once this year, and that was a 96 in round 7, he is simply a jet. As the two
most prolific SuperCoach scorers in Ablett and Pendlebury go head to head on
Saturday in what will enthralling watching, if you don’t have both in your side,
make that your priority.
Sam Mitchell
Mitchell may have had one of his more ineffective matches last
week with just 51 points from his 24 touches, expect him to bounce back against
a side he has feasted on in recent years. In his last three outings against the
Dogs, Mitchell has averaged 139 SC points – a superb return. The clearance king
has had eight tons in 2013; he is a safe captain selection.
David Mundy
Mundy has been in scintillating form over the last three weeks,
with an average of 27 touches and 126 SC points. Along with the star studded
Fremantle midfield, Mundy will have to fire if they are to come away with a
vital win against the Tigers. While he is the least selected of the Docker trio,
he is as reliable as any and a great point of difference player.
Tom Rockliff
Rockliff was back where we all want him – in the guts! He
attended the most centre bounces of his career and in turn produced a whopping
147 SC points. We all know the sort of scores he is capable of; it has just been
a matter of position and consistency for Rocky over the past 18 months. Now back
into the middle for the Lions and up against a side he destroys, averaging 126
from his past five meetings, he is worth a gamble.
Ablett watch
Ablett stole the show last time they played the Pies, racking up
53 possessions and 155 SC points! 36 (126 SC) the time before that and of course
his outstanding final match for Geelong where he collected 40 touches and 161 SC
points. Lock him in!
