you’re still in the running for the eight, or even the top prize, last night’s
team selections will undoubtedly affect most. With the likes of Jimmy Bartel,
Pearce Hanley, Dean Terlich, Jobe Watson and Patty Dangerfield all returning was
a positive note. But as always there are a few casualties, fortunately only
minor, Andrew Swallow is out for the year, while Tom Nicholls and Joe Daniher
will not feature this week.
As for last week’s top scorers, Dane Swan continued his hot form
with a destructive second half in particular. He racked up 39 touches, nine
marks and kicked three goals on his way to 159 SC points. Todd Goldstein (158)
dominated the ruck dual; Steele Sidebottom (155) was not far behind Swan while
both Joel Selwood and Ben Cunnington (151 apiece) were standouts through their
respective midfields.
Here are my captaincy selections for round 19.
Buddy was back to his best last week, booting 8 goals and
destroying the inform Jake Carlisle. While it hasn’t been Franklin’s best season
in fantasy terms, the heir of confidence looked to be back for the dynamic
forward. In another big match against the Tigers, Franklin could be in for a big
afternoon and worth a captaincy gamble.
Jimmy Bartel
He was the hero last time the two sides met, kicking the winning
goal in the dying seconds to skyrocket his score to 157 SC points. After his
undisclipned act against the Crows that cost him a week on the side lines, Jimmy
will be raring to go and is likely to play that sweeping role across half-back –
a big score could be on the cards once again.
Dayne Beams
What a return to football! Beams’ has wasted no time finding his
niche after a long stint on the injury list. With scores of 88, 134 and 134 he
has complemented Swan, Pendlebury and Sidebottom perfectly and has many coaches
looking to bring him in for a brilliant POD. When the two sides met in round 23
last year, Beams racked up 33 touches and 146 SC points.
Matthew Kreuzer
The 2007 number one draft pick has promised so much and this
year, the past fortnight in particular, has seen the arrival of Matthew Kreuzer.
In my opinion, he will be the number one picked SuperCoach ruckman for years to
come. Discarding his injury affected match and his poor score on return where he
was clearly underdone, Kreuzer has averaged an outstanding 113 SC points per
match, and with scores of 139 & 140 over the past two weeks he is one to
strongly consider.
Kieren Jack
Jack is again having a brilliant season and somewhat flies under
the radar in Victoria. He was superb against Richmond last week collecting 26
disposals and laying 10 tackles on his way to 146 SC points. The one given with
Jack is his contested style of football and when he scores – he scores big. In
his last three meetings against the Dogs he has averaged 32 touches and 122 SC
points.
Ablett watch
Once again Gary plays early on the Saturday, which provides the
option to whack the ‘VC’ on him, see how he goes and either keep his score or
opt for a Griffen, Swan, Pendlebury etc on the Sunday. A great luxury to
have.
