many of our popular selections either stinking it up or injuring themselves, Sam
Mitchell was a late out; Patty Ryder went down, likewise Shannon Hurn. Shaun
Higgins again failed to produce, as did Lance Franklin while Luke Dunstan, Tom
Langdon, Will Langford all fell back to earth after brilliant round one scores.
As they say, there’s always next week, now it’s time for
redemption.
The one saving grace was popular captaincy selection Scott Pendlebury,
delivering in a big way with a huge score of 182! After just three possessions
in the opening term, Pendlebury finished the game with 33 touches, 16 contested,
10 tackles, 11 inside 50’s, 9 clearances, a goal and was the clear match winner.
Old timers Brent Harvey (169) and Nick Riewoldt (152) were the difference
between the sides in their respective matches. Ruckmen Shane Mumford and Aaron
Sandilands were dominant with scores of 158 and 152 while Steve Johnson (145)
and Dayne Zorko (161) also returned impressive scores up at the
Gabba.
Here are my captaincy selections for round 3!
Aaron Sandilands
What a selection Sandilands has been, he produced a whopping 58 hit
outs last week, totally dominating the Suns and in turn produced us with 152 SC
points. He comes up against Ben McEvoy tonight in the grand final rematch. Is
there a man who can stop him at the moment? Whatever your response, he’s
certainly worth a look for your ‘VC’.
Gary Ablett
During the week the Suns skipper made the statement that his side must
hit the Q clash with not only their skill but their physicality. Expect the
little master to lead by example as he so often does, with an average of 31
disposals and 133 SC points in his last four meetings with the Lions; he is once
again a prime captain candidate.
Shane Mumford
Another big man who had a day out last weekend which has brought him
onto many coaches radar. Mumford has had a sensational start at his new club and
against the Demons inexperienced ruck department; he looks a huge chance to
again deliver a monster score.
Joel Selwood
For a man who played roughly a quarter of pre-season footy, due to a
niggling hammy, Selwood has set the world on fire and left many of us red faced!
One of the competitions brightest SuperCoach stars is in just 12 percent of
teams. Although off the back of scores of 157 and 140 that percentage will be on
the rapid increase, and while you’re at it why not chuck the ‘C’ on him as
well.
Dustin Martin
Dusty loves playing the Dogs, with his past three matches making for
impressive reading with scores of 94, 150 and 125. While Dusty may opt for a car
pool with a few of his teammates to get to Etihad Stadium this week, let’s hope
he puts on the gas once 1.45 rolls around. He may be a unique option to take a
chance on via the loophole.
