As for last week’s big scorers, many would’ve loop holed Scott Pendlebury (136) or even Jobe Watson (126) to great effect. While Ablett was back to his scoring best with 160 points, as well as former teammate Steve Johnson pumping out 160. Popular selections in Zorko (151), Cotchin (144), Hartlett (140) and Moloney (127) would’ve beefed up a lot of coach’s scores.
Here are my captain choices for round 6:
Scott Pendlebury
He’s not a happy man; Pendles publicly put his teammates on notice after a poor ANZAC day showing. Pendlebury was clearly Collingwood’s best and I don’t think there will be any stopping him tonight, he will continue to lead from the front and looks to be in super form with an average of 129 including four 120+ scores. Lock him in.
Lance Franklin
Last week Scott Thompson put the clamps on him and kept him goalless, a rarity for Buddy. You can’t keep superstars down for long, and I expect Franklin to be fired up to kick a bag this week. Adelaide is in a rut at the moment and with key injuries up forward, the ball could rebound out of defence at rapid pace, Buddy could have a field day.
Chris Judd
Juddy has had an up and down year, with many predicting he will drop off this year. He will not be his brilliant best week in week out, but Judd is still more than capable of destroying sides. One of these sides is Melbourne. He had a quiet game against them in 2012 with 21 touches and 80 points, but prior to that his scores versus the Dees are quite remarkable. Dating back to 2007, he last six games (excluded his 80) have produced scores of 163, 155, 109, 132, 167 and 166 at an average of 149! Look out for some vintage Judd.
Joel Selwood
In what looks to be one of the matches of the round between Richmond and Geelong, the Cats skipper is capable of monster scores. Selwood thrives on the challenge and with much talk of the Richmond midfield, he along with his fellow midfield brigade, will be keen to set the record straight. Selwood scored 144 last time these sides played, expect more of the same.
Todd Goldstein
The Kangaroos simply must beat Port Adelaide to give them any chance of a successful 2013. The Power are one of the in-form sides of the comp, but one of the weaker points in their side is the ruck department, Todd Goldstein needs to stamp himself upon this game. A risky selection, but possibly a good “try before you buy” loop hole option.
