Last weekend saw Leigh Montagna top the charts with 174 SC points. His 37 touches were at Joey’s destructive best, with 30 of them effective yet it wasn’t enough to drag his side over the line. Travis Boak (156) led the way in Port Adelaide’s huge win over the Cats; Cyril Rioli (154) was dynamic against the Tiges while Marc Murphy and Gary Ablett were instrumental in their side’s victories notching up 148 and 146 points respectively.
Here are my captaincy selections for this week!
Marc Murphy
The Blues skipper’s past two week’s are hard to ignore, he has returned scores of 153 and 148 and more importantly leading his side from the front and silencing many doubters. Murphy’s white hot form makes him a tempting option in tonight’s blockbuster, however he may have his hands ‘caffed’ by the Pies elite tagger – but Murph’s best form is unstoppable.
Nat Fyfe
Fyfe’s lowest score against the Eagles is 74 and that was in just in second game of AFL. Since then he has faced them six times and is yet to drop under 96 and scoring at an average of 109, Fyfe has been in excellent form throughout 2014 and will be an influential player in Sunday’s derby.
Sam Mitchell
As usual Mitchell has been racking up plenty of the ball in the early stages of 2014, but unfortunately for many coaches, this hasn’t always necessarily equated to plenty of SC points as was the case last week. The Hawks take on St Kilda this weekend and Mitchell should again find a lot of the Sherrin against his younger opponents making him a unique option for your VC.
Patrick Dangerfield
The explosive Crows midfield has sparked to life in recent weeks and us always one to consider for your skipper. While he may cause some frustration at times, his best is breath-taking as we saw against the Giants. Can anyone stop him against the Dees? If Dangerfield is on and gets a hold of this match – look out!
Ablett vs Pendlebury
Ablett
Past five vs North Melbourne – 153, 188, 139, 106, 83
Ablett loves playing North Melbourne; his record speaks for itself, especially in Suns colours. While his past five does reflect a sub-100 score, that surprisingly dates back to 2008. Gaz is unbelievably in the form of his life and he is a lock for skipper as per usual.
Pendlebury
Past five vs Carlton – 154, 121, 62, 145, 94
Pendlebury is a prime VC candidate for this weekend given he plays tonight. The Pies midfield is in outstanding form with Swan, Beams and Sidebottom also in superb form. He has had a consistent year thus far with one mammoth score; let’s hope a second mammoth score is in store tonight.
