angst over the Jack Viney decision. Thankfully, last night “people power”
prevailed and common sense came through. In our great game of AFL, accidents
will happen, and hopefully this will be the start of a more lenient and
understanding MRP of the courage AFL requires.
In fantasy land, we encounter the first of the three bye rounds.
Meaning our top 18 scorers will be the only ones to equate to our final tally.
The inclusion of Lance Franklin, Pearce Hanley, Will Langford, Xavier Ellis, and
Patrick Ambrose will help many coaches fill the sizeable void left by many of
our stars taking the week off. The likes of Ablett, Pendlebury, Beams and
Dangerfield, all missing in action this week, this will put our brains to the
true test when selecting our skippers.
One of SuperCoach’s most underrated jets top scored last weekend –
Callan Ward. Ward produced 145 SC points off the back of 40 touches and 8
tackles. The former Bulldog gets little credit over here in Victoria, but he has
certainly announced himself as one of the competitions star midfielders. Leigh
Montagna (144) continued his hot form, Josh Gibson (142) had a day out across
half-back against the Saints, Jared Polec (141) played his best game at AFL
level and guess who - Gary Ablett delivered 141 SC points after a quiet first
half.
Here my captaincy selections for round 8!
Aaron Sandilands
Sandilands was amongst the best on the ground in last week’s Derby and
should be closely looked at for your vice captain this week. The Dockers take on
Port Adelaide in the early Saturday game, Sandi also boasts an impressive three
game average against the Power of 120, albeit dating back to 2010! Strongly
consider.
Marc Murphy
While Murphy’s recent track record against the Saints is not his
finest, but his 2014 form has been brilliant. Starring in the Blues victories
and more often than not their best performer in some ugly losses. Sundays match
is one they will expect to win, and I expect Murphy to lead from the front and
clock up plenty of points.
Tom Liberatore
Seriously consider Libba this week! He was exceptional against the
Bombers a week ago but his record against the Dees is outstanding. He has only
played them twice, both in 2013. In the two combined matches, he racked up 72
touches, laid 20 tackles and scored 322 SuperCoach points, with scores of 159
and 163!
Jobe Watson
Watson has been slightly down on form of late, but given the lack of
options this week and his tempting price tag, he may be worth trading in, and
even throwing either of the captaincy options on him. In his past two matches
against the Lions he has scored 144 and 136 SC points - sweetening the
deal.
Ablett vs Pendlebury
Well they’re not playing this week as mentioned! No need for panic
stations just yet though, it’s time to get crafty with the loop hole and truly
earn your stripes when picking your captain.
Who will you be putting the 'C' on this week?
